Land rover announced that they would stop making the discovery and start making the LR3 instead has anyone heard much about this. i think it's def. a step in the wrong direction. i hear it has independent suspension and a jag engine. does anyone have any other info?

The LR3 IS the next gen disco. Supposedly going to still be called a disco everywhere but in the US. Looks like tha bastard son of a Honda element and a current disco. Offroad prowess zilch. Step in the wrong direction? Wake up!!! Hell he first disco was a step in the wrong direction

I believe this is the modular V8 that is basically 100% Ford, except for where it is made...

i read in c&d that the engine was some sort of jag engine but maybe i read it wrong. well at least the first disco's had some offroad ability where as this new rover has none.

Engine is a 4.4 liter V8 from Jaguar, though the block was originally from Ford.
Suspension is all independent and drived from the new RR.
Will have all the electronic off road goodies that the new RR has, and more so it should be as capable off road as the new RR (not that anyone takes an $80k SUV off road). But I've read plenty of offroad tests of that truck and it really does go just about anywhere you point it.
I, for one, think it is a step in the right direction since it is what 99.9% of the buying public want and it will keep Land Rover alive.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I just don't see griping about the inevitable. It's not like there is any shortage of used, solid axled Rovers out there for the .001% of the buying public - "us" - who actually take them offroad.

gotta admit it you ahve a point here! I wouldn't ever buy one, but if it gets Land-rover a bigger market share, they will stick around!

Yeah - they damn near have killed the content on the Mercedes board by deleting posts that didn't stand up to their 'high technical interest' test.
Like stealing axles from a Mog is "Mercedes Tech" anyway
