: i want to loose the fj40 lean!
rockthedog 04-06-2004, 10:17 PM i thought about putting a half inch spacer welded to my left rear spring pearch.....this seems to be about what it would take.
has anyone done this, or is there a reason not to do this?
any other ideas?
couldn't find anything on search.
did'nt really want to take the spring pack apart again either
soa by the way.
thanks

GreenPig 04-06-2004, 10:20 PM Toyota sold a 1/4 (or so) shim years ago to "correct" the lean.
Cruisers lean. All of them. That's life. :flipoff2:
rockthedog 04-06-2004, 10:30 PM i know they lean.......i've been watching it lean for 24 years......i go through this phase evry few years.........so let me deal with it :D
now that it is soa i might actually do it:D

CruisD64 04-08-2004, 11:14 PM put a few extra leaves on the leaning side and build a tire rack which is on the opposite side of the lean. Thats my suggestion :)
romer 04-09-2004, 06:20 AM You can buy shims to put between the Spring and axle to compensate. Here is the link to an article (below the book ad) on why cruisers lean:
http://store.yahoo.com/coolfj40/booktoylancr.html
You can get the shim from toyota or other cruiser part houses
Eskimo 04-09-2004, 06:55 AM Mine is actually damn near level now for whatever reason, but leans a little if my SO doesn't ride with me...
rockthedog 04-09-2004, 10:22 AM that wa a good article!.........i've decided to put the spacer in, i'm goin to put my spring center pin through it ; make it part of the spring pack, like a degree shim, i'll get a longer center pin......my u bolts are already long enoigh........
my spare tire i centered so that is a non issue.
thanks

Owyhee Jackass 04-09-2004, 12:01 PM I wouldn't bother buying it if you are going to put your center pin thru it.
All you need to do is drill a hole in the center of an approximately 3"x6"x3/8" plate.
I have one I can take a picture of and post with measurements.
peesalot 04-09-2004, 12:07 PM mine does not lean , but maybe thats due to the 3 leaf , stiff as hell spring packs that nobody has even made in 10 years. ya think?

romer 04-09-2004, 01:06 PM I don't know about just drilling a hole. The spacer I have has a dimple on one side (Bottom) for the guide pin of the spring and then a guide pin on the other(top side) to attach to the axle plate. If you drill it, you have to rely on the length of the spring guide pin. It should fit when it's static, but I would be concerned after use.
My 2cents.

He said he ws going to use a long center pin and make the plate part of his spring pack. Therefore no use drilling out that fancy dimple.

65SWB45 04-09-2004, 10:46 PM My old 3 leaf-ers never leaned....until the day the main leaf broke in half! Luckily I was already running extended bumpstops and was only two blocks from the shop! Somebody watches over me.
(the second thing I am even more sure of. Went out tothe garage yesterday to work on Ruftoys after test running the new widened rims last Saturday and found a HUGE tire separation. Providence again!)

The center pin is part of the top spring. Wouldn't you have to replace the top spring with something custom? Don't know if thats easier than buying the existing shim?

imagine you have a leaf spring pack in front of you....
1) take the nut off the center pin.
2)pull the center pin
3)place the spacer (3x6x1/2" with 5/16 hole) at the bottom of the leaf pack against the short leaf.
4)put new 6" long 5/16"center bolt through leaf pack and spacer
5)tighten nut
6)trim excess center bolt
7)replace spring
remember this is soa , so the head of the centerbolt now fits in the hole in the spring pad.
thats it

romer 04-11-2004, 07:40 PM Sounds like you have it worked out. Good luck!

Nope.:flipoff2: the center pin is a bolt that goes through all the leaves to hold them together in a pack.
