I have been a member of T.T.O.R.A. for almost 2 years now but I am not following the SAS routes. I have a Pre_Runner which is 2wd. I am going to be running a remote 82 Toyota t-case off my 2wd tranny which would put my drive shaft on the pass side. So I need something that is opposite the Waggy axle.....
Thanks.............
boston 4runner 01-09-2002, 08:33 PM ever think of trying a toyota axle...i got one for sale
BigBadBob 01-09-2002, 09:14 PM Pre-1980 waggy axles have passenger side diffs. :flipoff2:
The waggy axle is the ideal bang-for-buck solution to SAS a tacoma, regardless of the diff side you need.
44Runner 01-10-2002, 12:30 AM I would go with either a toy 8" front from like an 85 4Runner or a late 70's waggy 44. Also I was told by Marlin that the pre 85 t-case is much noiser.....just a thought :)

I was looking into the Toy axles but they are a little to narrow for my 98 Tacoma rear. I am probably gonna go the waggy route due to the avalibility. I am not to worried about the noise from the t-case. I am going to go trough the whole thing and rebuild everything before I put it together. I had an 82 Toy 4x4 and it wasn't too bad...
Thanks for the info.........

Yea, but it is too narrow for my 98 Tacoma axle.
Thanks for the offer though...............
Later.

WAY to narrow, and the diff is on the wrong side. :D
Go for a FZJ80 front axle. It is 63" WMF and has a 8.0 hp diff up front, or you could get one with an electric locker. You could pick up the axle with locker for about $1000+.
But, you would have to convert the axle to leaf springs and change the steering, unless you stay with coils up front.

He's converting to passenger side drop :flipoff2:
However, your are right about the width.
Bones 01-10-2002, 10:51 AM Oop's, at least I was half right there :D better than most of the time.
FWIW, I'm changing my SAS plans from a Toyota front and getting a D44. I plan to look for a 70's Chevy. Go to Erik B's Site (http://home.off-road.com/~bibelheimer/sas.html) for a wealth of knowledge.

Bones, just FYI, I found my D44 from a '73 Suburban in a bone yard up here for $100, so there are still good deals on D44s out there!! :D

Not too worried about going to leafs because I would have to move to perchs anyways to match my frame rails. Not too bad of a price, but not many of those axles in Florida. Do the FZJ80's have the Birfields?? Like the rest of the Toyota axles???
Later..........
Yes, they do have birfields but they are much larger than the ones in the minitruck.
FZJ80 axle is a full time axle under a much larger vehicle.

I would love to go that route, but I doubt that any of the parts yards around here would have anything like that. It is gonna be pretty much Chevy, Ford trucks in most.
