I always get a kick outta these types of posts from others so I like to do them when Im building something.....anyway

My S-Blazer is sold and getting a new home/owner, it provided me with lots of fun and wheeling (I owned it 5 years) It went to Hot Springs Ar, Disney Ok, KsrocksPark, Randolph Ks and just about every local trail it could find inbetween it even saw Alabama a few times and the beach in Florida.

So now that its gone, I feel compelled to build my current daily driver (waste another perfectly good vehicle...) and let it morph in somewhat the same manner as the Blazer did....only worse cuz I own a tube bender and welder now and have alot more knowledge from PBB and practicing on my friends junk. SOOOOO to get to the point, heres the plan.

89 C1500 I bought this as a2wd with a bad 4.3L and 5 speed.

I swapped in a .030 over 350 and utilized all the TBI and what not to keep it injected.

I have found a donor 3/4T chebby with a d44 front and 14b rear. Im plan to take the SM465 and Tcase out of it as well to use in my 2wd to 4wd conversion.

I ordered Rubicon Express Brackets (RE9986,RE9988) for the front Long Arm suspension setup (hope to have them next week) and I have a full set of front and rear ZJ springs that should be here tommorow. The plan up front as stated is to run ZJ front coils and Im building my links with 1.5x .215 wall DOM that have 4 3/4 chromo rod ends at the axle and I have 2 threaded Bushing ends at the frame. (the other two ends on the top of the axle are bushings that are supplied with the brackets I ordered from RE)

Front suspension layout will be similar to this...(pic stolen from RE website)
http://www.fuelie.org/gallery/data/500/14tjundercarriage-med.jpg

The rear I am going to 4link dual triangulated and I plan to use a Spyder Customs Diff guard with ears to brace my cross over tube and what not. Im going to run 4.10s (stock) gears in it for now as it will still be a DD  and I should have (cash talks big props to you!!) A set of polished aluminum blingy type wheels Friday...and Im going to run 37x12.50 Radial hummers on this one instead of the Bias Ive been using. I will also convert the rearend to Disc brake before it goes in because I can :flipoff2: I plan to weld the rear because Im cheap and Im leaning towards an Aussie Locker up front for traction.

THE BODY
Im taking the bed off for starters as I intend to shorten the wheelbase to 119 I want to tube/cage it and tie it in for a very stout chassis frame, the chebby frames are stupid weak and flex alot I dont want mine to continue the trend.... I am thinking of hacking up my bed and skinning my tubework with it just so it still halfass maintains a stock look (shorter and cooler of course with big openings for tires...)

So anyway I plan to document this one..and I should have some before and during pics coming along over the next few weeks/months. Heres the victim while I was putting the 350 in it...:nuke: :skull:  :vader2: :ghost:

Makes me wish I would have had a red star or a hosting site when I was building the black sheep. Too bad Pdaddy told me I couldn't help on this one, he is scared I would make it too functional and pretty.
Funny thing is that he doesn't have another DD while he is building this one just laying around. THAT is dedication.
I vote go with the other 60 you found. then crossover is free with a little fab work, you can get on it and not worry, and you will pay yourself back with the money you would be spending on new 44 axles every weekend. Remember, this is a fullsize with more weight on the front than that S-10 had.

Pdaddy

60's are getting so trendy though :flipoff2: Your right about weight....how much can I cut off the frontend before the law takes notice while Im on the way to Sonic?

I think the powers that be in Paola let you get away with about 74.5% less front end material before they get worried. I would push it, though. Fawk Johnny Law:D

I will get the info tonight and post it up. not sure on the price though ?

I'd like the info too, have the same wheels and want to beadlock 'em, 16.5's x12's would rather hook them up rather than buy new ones for BL's like Hummers or something.
Paul if you find someone up there local, tell 'em you got another guy interested. I'm ready to move on it.

Any word on the 16.5s in aluminum ? Looks like theres a little more interest in this than I thought...Hell I get the tires basically free so 16.5's are my friend until I get a goot job :flipoff2:

American: The blaze went to a good home, its getting scout 44s put under it and will be back on the trails again....

My local guy didnt seem to excited about doing the wheels, something about using his works equipment without asking...:flipoff2:

I FINALLY got the donor truck thing sorted out again, so I should have the axles, tranny and Tcase for my swappage by the end of next week. Ill have to do another cash flow check after I get those to the shop :( I dont want to get into this and have to wait to finish hence the parts before the building starts... ;)

PSC rock ring will get ordered next week so I can get the 14b out back linked up propa The 14B is disc braked welded and prepped for paint (thanks for the trade on rotors Backyardbuilt)

Minden is going to hook me up with some 52in leaves up front (arent you :flipoff2: ) so Ill just leaf the front to help afford this project

I should get some pics up pretty soon if Im not to lazy/intoxicated I took the first week of June off so we shall see

I started to bend/build a tube front bumper for it last night. Hope to finish it tonight. Ill see if I can get pics of that, I may hang the front spring mounts on it this weekend as well and just have them on it already for the swap in a week and 1/2. Can you tell Im itchin to tear into this thing?! If I can stay productive this weekend I hope to get the axles pretty much done minus the pass side 44.. Shaker wont have my knuckle until Tuesday so Ill be waiting on that for the frontend to be complete.

*******Kelly/Ben/any other locals.... you have any frame brackets that are easy to get too or not on a moving rig? I hate to make that donor truck non-mobile just for 2 front hangars off the rear springs... (I have a front frame half with the other hangars I need and i have shackles too..)

Get a fake! No seriously get a fake! Not only will it help your social life, ass comes so much easier when you can go out. Not an opinion, a proven fact!

You'll have to ask Blacksheep about my hook ups in Aggieville back in the day, I'm not sure why I graduated and went and got a real job and all. So much has changed since then! Blacksheep used to work at Joe's, he was up in Manhappyness for a few semesters.

that isn't that far from all of us, you should come to my mud run. Plenty of ass there, albeit, some of it trashy. They still like to hump too. just a day of horsepower in light ass trucks, ask anyone that has been, it is a blast. June 19, paola KS. If you get to paola or any of the surrounding intersections, (169/68, 169/paola exits, 69/311th street, etc) you can find it because there are 4'x4' plywood signs guiding the way.

Rod end supply didnt have the fawkin 3/4 spacers I needed... :mad3: wasted a fawkin drive across town on my lunch for nothing! The rear should be damn near done tommorow afternoon...I took the day off well again

And yes the uppers and lowers still need to be finished out, obviously that little bracket I made sitting in the frame rails isnt going to be left like that.. I tend to box it in and along with around 6-8 inches of the frame rail at that point to help strengthen this pathetic excuse for a frame rail.... These trucks are built really shitty from the factory..and Im being polite in that statement. I also took the rear stock crossmember out and intend to slide it forward and bolt it back in to help out...then a trailer hitch deal cut down and welded into the frame rails in the rear... Ive done this on several trucks with good results and it makes a nice clean easy tow point out back. (Plus I still have 2 more hitches that I didnt pay jack for to cut up!)

Livewire, you wanting Bones's bumper or Pdaddy's? I think Pdaddy needs to just give his away, and go down to Dorghteys and have Chase bend up a more pointy stinger.

As for the mudrun. Get on 35 south, at Olathe you'll take 169 South to Paola. Start looking for huge Mudrun signs once you get to the 1st Paola exit. Hard to miss. Bring beer, and chicks, and plan on staying late, cause the party after is awesome. My only real advice is: if she looks like a stripper either she is or was, but either way she'll do ya'. I just saw in your sig line.......35's? You don't need a 60 with those street tires!

Blacksheep10 and I were reflecting last weekend about a few summers ago and the tires that where laying around his shop. It was like $15K in random tires, a couple sets of 44's (TSL's & Bogger's), quite a few full sets of 40 boggers, 38 TSL sets, and the list goes on. And those were just his, doesn't even count Heaths or mine. So as you can see, you can easily figure out how Blacksheep10 has become a 60 horder.

When I went back out at God knows when in the morning, I almost perforated a tire on the bike laying down in the mud hole. I don't like mud until I get real trashed, then it is too much fun. almost the most fun I had was towing Miles's busted ride all the way from the bottom of the property to the top, BACKWARDS! He was just holding on and ducking every time a tree would come his way or when I would hit mud and pelt him. I bet I drug him through the mud hole at 20, I was tapped out in second. Funny stuff.

Also, I totally fucked the link mounts and everything up on the back of the sheep yesterday. it is some pretty bad carnage. After that, I cut reverse donuts in the field. You would think that something would break with it at full lock and full throttle in reverse with big bogs, but wait, oh yeah, I have a 60 :flipoff2:

I broke all 6- 3/8" bolts that hold the top bridge on the rear cover when I came down climbing a hill under full throttle. I had the hill, but when the bridge let go, the rear shaft came out and the crossmember that holds the links bent forward. It was some good impact. It does reverse donuts like no front wheel drive car I have ever been in ever does. I just need to bend some shit back straight and buy 1 u-joint and it is fixed. Not bad for the kind of action I threw at it. I was even sober. I just said fuck it and went to see dodge ball. Awesome flick by the way

Ill have to get my welder outta storage, drive it by the back porch plug in to my mother inlaws dryer outlet and burn her house down tryin to weld the POS back together!!!! I think Im going to fit right in around Alabama to be honest at this point! :flipoff2: I just ordered a set of tube flanges so I can add a removable cross over tube above the engine to the tops of the shock hoops..at least BTF is in the same state so Ill have them tommorow.

Paul, I like the look. Agree with you on the shizz about the bed lowers behind the wheelwell. And I look at the puddle under the diff, as your truck just marking where its been. Such as that was in Kansas. It musta known that it was leaving and it wanted to leave something to be remembered by.
60, you must be crazy for not having one yet, everybodies doing it! lol

yup, off road connection is right over there on the decatur highway. my guess is y'all went to homefield. kinda redneck (well there all kinda redneck up here) sports bar/ grill next to off road connection, right. i've let my membership lapse with CAOS, in between selling / buying new rigs and a heavy work load, i haven't had any time. anyways, i'm just across the interstate about 3 miles or so from where you were last night.

as for my rigs, this was mine.... :(

A good source for tubing in B'ham is O'Neal, Too. It's the customer walkin site for O'Neal Steel. Also, one of the CAOS members works at one of the steel suppliers. Look on their web page at corporate members.

I'm actually off that weekend. Can pull Jeff up there, he said no more long distance with the 6.5 pulling, topped out at 60 sucks. Labor day weekend would be a pretty tight trip from my end with the work schedule and the 10 hour haul.

You have no idea how true that last statement is now. On the way to Tiffs parents last night, the duramax let loose  . Ah yeah I'm now on foot. Dropped a cylinder. Haven't check it out today (left it in the 'burbs), but I suspect a ring, due to my oil pressure dropping in half. I'm praying that its one of the direct injectors and that cylinder just isn't getting fuel, but highly doubtful.
Going to have the dealer tow in tomorrow, and fix it. So early reports are its fucked!

plus there is another reason that woodywag doesn't have a rig right now. It has to do with a large cash expenditure on something that could be seen as an investment or as taking a dive. Either way, it was a large chunk of change, and now he has to start the rig savings account over again

She said "Yes" if it's any consolation.

Yes, if you'll see my sig line, the part about where I post, you'll know why its gone to shit.

Also just got off the phone with the Bill Heard Chevrolet Service.
They said they'll send a wrecker for the DMax and let me know this afternoon
The service guy was an idiot. He didn't care what I thought it was doing, he wanted to know about the shaking, and rattleing, and were they were coming from. I told him it was only running on 7 cylinders, and he repeated the shaking rattling "?". I was like, "Hey, it is missing, so it makes it shakes real bad that satisfied him." Fawking moron. Definately hope their techs are smarter than this asshat. I'm still praying that its only an injector. I pulled the filler plug and started it and didn't get any real pressure to point towards blowby so I don't think its a ring issue. If they have to tear into the engine that thing is For Sale as soon as I get it back. Never had one come back right from a dealer once that shit happens. Case in point my '93 6.5, that thing hasn't been right since it blew its 1st turbo up at 12,000miles.

..... Fawking moron. Definately hope their techs are smarter than this asshat.....

yeah right!!! i mistakenly took my old '90 k5 to a local STEALership back at the first of the year.

the cliff notes version is, i took in my rig to be fixed when it started running like $hit right before a big run in TN. i had out of town business obligations and wouldn't be able to get it fixed in time. thinking the GM dealership would be the best and quickest option, although more expensive, i took it in. told them what it was doing (starving for fuel) and recent maintenance routines that had been performed (wires, plugs, rotor, vacuum lines, etc.) but, like you said, they just wanted to know how it acted while driving. went to pick it up first time, wasn't fixed. (which, BTW, made me miss my run in TN.) seeing as the had already hit me for a huge chunk of money and it wasn't right, i turned around and told them it SPECIFICALLY what item i would like checked (in-tank fuel-filter).

a week later, "It's Ready". go to pick it up and followed up to make sure the filter had been checked. they replied "YES", but to double-check i look at the work order. it confirmed what they said. start to drive it off, same problem. at that time, tell me they've done all the can. motor must need a re-build. get it home, drop the tank and pull the filter. it was black as night, full of crud and collapsed upon itself. get a new one, problem fixed. jackasses!! :shaking:

i'm still trying to get a resolution going through GM, with no luck. they've got until the 1st of september to refund my money or it's going to court. i should have just dropped a lawsuit on them in the first place, considering they FRAUDULENTLY billed for work that wasn't performed. but, i was trying to be civil about the thing, believing that people are too "sue-crazy" these days. all i wanted was my $693.71 back.

anyways, i hope you have better luck than i did!!!

BigWoodyWag

No way, that sucks, fawking lazy bastards! You need to submit them to the BBB of your state. Also you should submit there name to the local TV stations and really drum it up if they continue to fight you on the money. Did you document your fix?

I'm hopeing for better service, but honestly doubt it will happen.

Oh yeah mines under warrenty, but like that matters when if comes to getting it fixed. It just means I won't be paying for it. That also worries me, they'll prolly come up with some reason that my lift and 35's made the engine work harder somehow and fawked the engine. I just have no patients for stupid people, and damnit if there aren't alot of them around.

lefthand
08-09-2004, 10:58 AM
at first, i didn't. went to regional service manager to address the issue. comes back with, "you didn't tell me the truck had been modified". of course, as i informed him, the modifications performed on my vehicle had no bearing on his service department's inability to effectively diagnosis a fuel delivery problem.

after that, no more civil contact from GM. so, my experiences were turned into BBB. contacted the local news outlets, but couldn't gather any interest. apparently, there's no consumer watch-dog type reporting around here. too bad, because i took lots of documentation before and after my repairs.

The Blacksheep held up well (crushed one front driveline, sliced one tire), Ben's S-ton didn't fair so well. Powersteering pump issues on the full hydro knocked him out until Sat. afternoon. It was a stretch to get it together, I think I drove to town 4 times, and to Vinita once for parts totally sucked. Have to give props to Chad at Green Country Offroad in Vinita, for the free chevy pumps and brackets. Then Ben exploded a yoke on his front driveshaft on a waterfall. Not sure if the fix held up as I bailed out about 10pm on Sat to head back to Houston. There were 3 Sami's with us, those things go anywhere. 31's and lockers and they rock. Talk about cheap wheelin'!
I think there was some ground work laid for a wheelin party at Kurt Ohlmeyers in Paola on Oct 22nd (two months)

I worked for a day and a half getting it to stay cool. The hottest it ever got was 195 and I was railing on it like no tomorrow. I am satisfied for now, but still plan on making more changes to help it out more.
The trip was great, except for the white s-10's carnage. That sux for him.

Im still here :flipoff2:

The truck got sliders, and I started the tube work on the bed, the hoop behind the cab connects to the sliders then there is two down tubes going to the rear of the frame (chebby frames are weak and bend in the middle behind the cab, my thought was this would help....blacksheep has demonstrated this weakness with me in his truck previously :grinpimp: ) I still need to add some tube to the hoop to crossbrace it and I want to do a little something something to the down tubes to brace them as well...probably buck that out this weekend.

Tranny Tcase swap. Well I have the tranny and tcase in my garage finally, and my daughter and I started to clean them up a bit last night. I REALLY need a rear driveshaft and front shaft out of a mid 70's chevy 4x with a fixed yoke 205...so any help there is appreciated ( khorfab@yahoo.com if ya got any or know were I can find them cheap, ive salvage yard shopped my ass off around here with no luck!! ) My 5 speed is making some pretty nasty noises, 190k I figure its about done. The fact I put 50-60 miles a day on the rig doesnt help it any either... I am really itchin to get the tranny and tcase in it, it will be a real fun rig Im sure.

we got our model 105 last week and I have it mounted with the cylinder on it. I am just waiting for ben to bring the pump and motor over so dad can make the hoses I need for the hydro. That's right Paul, I have a hydro bender. lets see who can bust out some tube work in a nasty hurry now :p
Get your ass on that tranny tcase issue. You need to wheel again.
Ben and I are shipping our 203 range box output shafts to Wagoner for resplining, we are both doing doublers. With the cut 44's on, I just need more reduction in so many areas. I wish I could swing the 3.1:1 so I could have 1:1, 2:1, 3.1:1, and 6.2:1. All in due time I guess.
for now, 4:1 will do. I am getting a high pinion 60 from a kid down here at school if I buy him a 6" lift and put it on, it is an old chevy, so no problem there. After wadding up my front shaft, I am not putting up with that thing being exposed any longer. I am getting the high pinion and the doulber at the same time so I can clock my t-case flat, and get the belly of my truck flat to a skidder will just be a flat plate.
maybe I should start a thread about the progression of the sheep

Na, I'll just keep hijacking Paul's :flipoff2:

I intend to have a set of shafts by next week, Im all over ebay, here in the wanted sextion and all that something will turn up dammit.

Thats pimp shit on the bender.... I finally made some little spacers and shit to make mine more user friendly, I even polished and mounted the degree ring LOL

Im going wheelin Sunday...so suck it. Aint my truck but its wheelin LOL :flipoff2:

Well here are the results from my last outing. Pics included

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=424174

Im now parting my D44 and selling all the D44 stuff I have collected (New Full Detroit, Lockright, CTM's blah blah) to fund its replacement... which will be a D60. Once I get the D60 I plan to link it up front with the 12" Fox Coilovers I bought used a few months ago. I want to push the axle fwd 3 inches Im thinking right now... That will put my Wheelbase at 125.. pretty long But it hasnt slowed me down any @122 so Im in. maybe one day ill be able to afford larger tires that would rock !!!
I will also full hydro it with a Double ended ram I have in my possesion thanks to Blacksheep10...who will probably be the same person I get the 60 From. After the holidays I should know were Im at finacially on this and hope to get the 60 rounded up and start building up front. I may front half the frame, Im not certain yet though...need to get under it and decide still.

Well I did commit finally to doing the boatsides. I started to cut the cab up... and of course it started raining then the power went out.

Last weekend playing with the wife

After that ride I decided I needed a pimped out speed shifter for the SM465, I put a CD player in it and a couple of truck boxes behind the seat also..
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g94/hardlinecustom/shifter1.jpg

Then I started in on the cab...

Im waiting on a coil spring kit from BTF to use when I shorten it. So I can do it in a day and be done with it and not have the truck non-movable. They were telling me it would ship this week, but it appears that isnt likely to happen unless they get it out today... its now 4pm though :(

I should have some progress this weekend on the boatside and Im going to do a similar cage to what reddman did (its a sweet design and Im doorless like you.) tied into the boatside as well. I got a few buddies coming to distract me .... I mean help so maybe we will get something accomplished Saturday.

Here is one from today... I had just gotten done welding the last tube of the day in for the framework on my boatsides when a buddy showed up and forced me to go out in the woods by my place... I need to lay the plate into the boatside and they will be done. Took forever to cut and clear all the crap off the cab I didnt want... still have some things to cut off too

Im going to add a "hipbar" coming off the B hoop and down to the top tube of the boatside. That is why I cut all the bottom of the cabside off. I like to think Ill put some cool plate in there, but to get it lazercut the way id like to have it will probably be outta my price range... maybe Ill leave it open until I can afford it and add that in later.

Some of the guys on my forum are workin up some logo/ pics to get lazer cut. I put the hip bar and support under it last night... I just got home from Oneal and now have enough tube to finish and complete the cage as well. Im going to build off my boatside and do basically like reddman did with his semi outside/in cab cage. I hope to have the bending and cage done this weekend if I dont end up doing an intake on my wifes S blazer :(

Heres some of my skillful  photochop skills... the ??? is were Im going to stick plate. Its a 16.5 inch tall and 6.5 wide area to work with..
