How do I pull an axle shaft from a rear 8"? I can pull the 4 nuts on the tube side of the brake backing plate, but then the whole thing comes apart.
I'm used to Dana axles where you have a hole in the flange that you run a socket through to remove the shaft from the backing plate but don't see anything like this on the 8" I'm working on.
Help?

Nope, that's the same thing that I already did. How do you get the shaft out without messing with the brakes?
Barring that how do you remove the shaft from the brakes in the event that you break it?

You have to press the bearings off of the shaft.

Makes trail repairs more of a bitch like that, doesn't it?

*edit* One more argument in favor of disc brakes

Or you can do the "slam on the concrete till your hands bleed" dance.
