: S-10 Blazer SAS?

Has anyone ever heard of someone doing an SAS on a later model S-10 blazer? i own one and the IFS doesn't perform worth crap. it also has a problem where the front feels like it is binding up on dry conditions, but in the snow or mud it does fine. so i am thinking of gutting the crappy IFS and putting full size axles under it. Just want some feed back to see if it is a good idea. the body is nice and narrow, and the wheel base would be killer for the rubicon. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :D

I think he means a little newer than that, though rockwells make anything cool I think. The frames are the same more or less between a 1st gen and 2nd gen. So basically the wheelwells are the only concern which is different in the swap. Unless an overall look of what it might be is what you're looking for. I've seen swaps on and new as a 2002 crew cab. If you decide on fullwidth axles and run it daily check your laws first.

i'll let you know in a week or so, i've got a 97 S10 x-cab pu 4.3 2wd in the drive way, a waggy D44, a pair of 44044s, a welder, and some steel, i'm gonna go tear apart the ifs right now.

a sas is a very good idea if your going to wheel it a lot. i had 31s when mine was ifs and nothing but problems.

theres a company that sells a bolt on kit for newer model s10s, but it uses a dana 30 from a cherokee. better then ifs but if your going through the work of a sas i think you should go with something at least as strong as a 44.

what you used for axles depends on how much tire your want sticking out. whatever you use will have to be driver side pumpkin or you will have to swap transfer cases.

same for any other sas make sure you have a good high powered welder and a plasma cutter helps a lot or a torch to get rid of the ifs garb.

heres a few pics of mine with leafs its not a newer model but as jamus said the frames are not much different as far as i know.

that loop is hanging down is needed in the transmission crossmember if you run the stock drivetrain, or else your driveshaft wont fit.

nice rig man. if i had to change my t-case, what t-case would i need to change to if i wanted to run a D44 with a passenger side pumpkin? and how hard would it be to find a D44 driver side pumpkin axle if i didn't change the t-case?

to run an axle with a pass. side diff, you'd most likley want to swap to the same Tcase as a solid axle chevy would use, a 205, a 203/205 doubler, a 208, or a 241 would all work and all adapt to a 700R4 or turbo 350/400

what tranny and t-case does a stock S-10 Blazer have in it? and what can i swap into it without changing the engine?

theres lots of good info on that second link there.

another t case option is a dana 300. im not really sure about what the really new s10s have but i know if you have a 700r4 a 208 is really the only thing there is a factory adapter for. as far as the motor goes if its a 4.3 it will bolt to anything that a 350 does. advanced adapters sells adapters to mate a lot of different trannies to transfer cases so your possibilityies are endless just depends on your budget and how far you want to go. I just kept the stock driveline because the truck was going to be a dd/built on a high school budget, and its my first vehicle.

pdaddy- i am done with that double cv set up. look closely at the other pics they are newer. i went with a high pinion housing narrowed to the J10 wide track (about 63" wms). now i run a driveshaft with a cv at the transfer case end. i also redid the front suspension to move the axle forward like 3 inches. i just finished this the other day havent wheeled it yet

between the 3 extra inches foward and the high pinion with a better pinion angle hopefully my troubles will be solved.

the old low pinion axle was at a compromise between caster and pinion angle. i made the double cv driveshaft to do the rediculous compound angle. it really needed a long spline but it still ate the cvs up. it blew apart endless amounts of times. i think the nature of a cv at each end made it want to do this as well. it was a nightmare

when i narrowed the high pinion i give it a decent pinion angle and the correct caster. no more compromise. i should have done this from the start. but its a learning experience. im only 19 this is my frist truck so ive learned plenty so far.

Big96 How do you like the LA setup. Im in the process of doing the same suspension setup (with coils ya high rolla :flipoff2: ) under my 2wd C1500

Dirty your truck is sweet man, nice work

I really like the way they turned out, they are definately heavy duty and will not bend. I think it flexes pretty well, I just need to adjust the coils some more, maybe get a lighter top set so i can adjust the length of the coilover out some, seems like the rear is doin more work than the front, but I will get if figured out as soon as I get my truck down here.
