I need to know how many quarts of Gear Lube is required in the AX-15 manual tranny. The manual is all screwed up, first off by stating using GL-5 instead of the recommended GL-3 in the FSM, and it also doesn't state the amount used.
Anyone know how many quarts go into the AX-15?

Don't you just fill it till the fluid starts draining back out the fill hole?

According to my '99 FSM:
Approx 3.27 qts for dry fill on 4 wheel drive unit
Approx 3.32 qts for dry fill on 2 wheel drive unit:question:

Doesn't these trannies use ATF in them? I could be wrong, but I thought thought most newer standards are running ATF in them?

No sir. The ATF is too light to lubricate them correctly. This is one of the reasons the AX-15 trannies are harder to shift when cold.
Use Red Line MT 90 nothing better.

I'm using GM synchromesh...I'll leave the Redline to the racers. Thanks for the replies. I have 7 bottles, and needed to know how many quarts, since we're doing two Jeeps.
