Been thinking about getting some quads for the family and according to what I have seen the minimum age to ride a 50cc is 6years old. Is that true? Can a 4 or 5 year old ride with adult supervison? Will I get ticketed by law enforcement or park rangers for that? Thanks.

I dont know of any age limits here in california. my son has been riding his 50cc since he was about 4. at places all over. The 50cc are fairly easy to ride and the throttle can be reduced so they can only go so fast. also, some come with a tether to pull if your kid gets out of hand. Just make sure you teach them how to use the hand brake....or else....dont ask...lol...just teach them!

Maybe I am confusing restrictions on dealerships selling quads to different ages with parents allowing their kids to ride. When I went to the dealerships they had stickers that stated 6+ on 50cc, 12+ on 90cc and 16+ for 120cc and higher. Seemed kinda rediculous but maybe it is a reliablity thing that the dealerships and manufactures are trying to avoid lawsuits. I have no problem teaching my 4 year old how to responsibly ride a 50cc, just didn't want to get tickets for doing it. Anyone else have any other knowledge?
My son is 2 1/2 and I already have him riding his little LT50 with me having him on a leash and the throttle limiter that I installed. The rangers saw and thought it was cool. You are correct on the rules that the dealerships have agreed to follow from the manufacturers to prevent any liability from being sue like with the ATC's in the '80's. The best way to prevent any trouble is DO NOT bring in your son when you go to buy. Shop at another dealer when bringing your son but do not have him with you when you buy. Alot of dealers can still get into trouble if they knowingly sell to a person that isnot going to follow the guidlines. This was covered in the most current issue of Dirt Wheels and they are currently working to get those rules re-visited and changed.

If you feel your son is able to handle the quad doit....My son is also 6 and has Driven a 600cc snowmobile (me with him of cousre) Parent Supervision is a must!!! The rangers probly will not bug you as long you are acting responsable!!! Other then that get the kid a quad and do the family thing.. The kids and you will find a new bond....
