Local boneyard fixin' to crush several, if he thinks of it, he lets me P&P before he does, I found this on a late model Audi 5 cyl. no markings so I don't know year make etc, it had air bags so I guess it was mid 90's :flipoff2:

Car had 4 wheel disc, so I would bet it would work on a 4WD FJ.

Here is the length of the tube that spaced it away from the firewall.

the firewall portion looks too big as in it might not fit. Not really worth cutting into it as the early model boosters are a dime a dozen, at least in my shop:mad: I get a good deal on early and late booster rebuilds happy to pass it along. After my Texas trip I will do just about anyhing for you including knocking that big ass hat off

David I'm talkin' early FJ's, pre booster, the one you have to move the booster out to clear the rib on the firewall........TARD!!!
Best bring help if you plan on f'n with my hat.

might a trip up to see kowboy's tow rig and the 45shorty be in order or do you feel like measuring the distance between the studs that go thru the firewall for us? Butch. please? Getting ready right now to do the conversion.. it's either order an adapter or that assembly might be just the ticket!

HUH?

I was thinkin' make a metal template, of the bolt pattern, use it to drill the firewall, then move the template to the inside for extra re-enforcement.....what does the stud spacing matter? Unless you actually think it "Might" fit:D :D

It's just as important to get an overall length measurement if not more so because of the carb-air cleaner issue. I believe he wants to stay with the stock 6 and 1bbl for now which is a tight fit. BTW, the booster snout needs 3.6" to clear the firewall brace.

Is the brace right next to the snout? This is only 3"

Eric next time I am down at the yard I could maybe see if there is one down here, I know how "dem foreign cars" are in the midwest and there are a few at the pick n' pull. FWIW :flipoff2:

Don't take this the wrong way, but the brace would be the same distance from the snout as it is from the stock master cylinder right now!:flipoff2:

I don't have an early truck here close to look at, however since I have seen pictures of the Wardens, I guess the brace will clear this adapter, it would be no big deal to fab a plate like the one on the booster side of this one to gain another 1/2" of clearance.

Absolutely! If the plate is the thickness of the studs in the extension piece, you could double drill it and save all drilling into the firewall. So the next question is how long is it from the back side of the booster to the front of the master cylinder and what is the width of the master cylinder (to calculate off the existing m/c centerline of the truck)

Duh, that's two questions!

Andre.. I've got plenty of Junked Audi's in my neck of the woods but thanks much for the offer..
I just figured out my Tax situation so Will be calling 65SWB45's shop today after 3:00 (when he opens) to order a new fuse block and voltage regulator for now and probably order his adapter for the firewall as well.. Either Chef or myself will use it.. My biggest problem is I have stuff to do in the garage and a "No Brakes at All" Fj45 sitting in the way!

Butch.. Thanks again for all you do and the strange things you seem to figure out..

I'm not sure about the master situation on that booster.. What is the bore on it? Is it marked? Is the back of the booster(audi) 4bolt pattern similar or same as the Toyota pattern?:)
That might be an option..
Probaby have to tap the pushrod down to fit the pedal but that's not hard..

And yes.. I was just curious if it'd just bolt on! Worth a shot huh?:D

I am really just days away from trying to figure this situation out.. Need to order in some bulk steel brake line and bulk fittings to re-plumb the whole truck.. Have the rear axle done, just need to build the front for the 40 and 45.. Waiting on Knuckle studs (and other goodies) right now from Marlin.. Should be arriving anyday now..

does anyone have pictures of this brace and the firewall area? is it even possible to cut the brace to clear or does that wipe it out to much?

Does he heve them?, cool if so. Marlin was looking into it. Butchbuilt had them but is not making them. Warden is gone. I thought someone could take it up. I liked the steel tube idea from Butch. I would do billet ones like Warden.

"does anyone have pictures of this brace and the firewall area? is it even possible to cut the brace to clear or does that wipe it out to much?"

YOu could cut the brace.. But the problem on the older model fj40/45 with the brace is the Clutch master is right there next to the area where the brake booster would mount. I'll try an post a pic later but hoping to bail outta town and go drinkin with Chef this weekend!

from Pygpen's website. I can't shrink pics here at work.. and not home to take a picture of mine :)

Cruzila.. it is my understanding that yes marksoffroad does sell such an adapter. I will be ordering mine later today and thus getting stared on making my 45shorty stop and go. I gotta try and spread my little bit of cruiserfunds around to the small shops and keep em open!
Trying to keep up with California time sucks for us easterners.. I gotta wait till 3:00 my time to call.. Skeleton crew here at the office!

I did like Warden's adapter.. Very nice.. I'm sure Marlins would be equally as cool.
I will provide input on converting from 4wheel drums to disks here in the future.. Guessing that moab's gonna take priority tho!

Make 'em! Choices are good, and as time goes by more old drum brake wheel cylinders are gonna die, and folks aren't going to want to replace them. I got two rigs that need *something*...
