Maybe I'm being stupid or I have some bad parts but either way I cant figure out how to wire this. I'm looking in the repair manuals and it says"to ignition". No diagram of the ignition itself so what does what? What wire to what wire will start this guy up. Its a 1980 258.

Chew each of the wires insulation off and touch each one with each other until you find the right ones to make it start.

Ignition wire to the coil maybe?

You have 2 wires going into your STARTING SYLONIDE (sp?) connects to the alternator. You want to pick the dead wire to that should be either red or blue, get a test light on it when your cranking it.

WTF is this thread all about??
The original question doesn't make any sense at all, and yet a bunch of you have jumped in with answers... and none of it makes sense.
What the hell are you trying to wire up? A push-button for the starter?? What exact wires can't you figure out??
You got to make yourself a whole lot clearer to get any sort of useful response.

lilrocky, are you numb in the brain? how much clearer can th man be?
Dan, check out hod rod wiring books, they're a little more helpful for that type of wiring. Or if you order a started button through Jegs or Summit, it'll include wiring.
First things first, what are you using for an ignition switch? that'll determine your push button wiring

On my '89 258 the ign crank lead (from the key) was a small green wire w/black stripe.
Apples to oranges maybe.

You gotta be numb in both your brain and your shorts, yahoo.
The original question is unclear, and provides little information as to the exact nature of his frustration.
In the first place, aside from the subject of the post, there's no indication of what he's trying to wire up. If one were to assume that he's trying to install a push button switch for his starter, he gives no indication of what the hell he's already tried, and what hasn't worked.
And what the hell is "to ignition" about? A starter button doesn't connect to the ignition system. One could wire a pushbutton from any "ignition hot" source, to the "S" terminal on the solenoid. Or it could be taken from any battery+ source if it doesn't matter that it remains functional w/ the ignition off. In either case, I'd fuse the hot lead .
At any rate, IF this is what he's trying to do, it's a simple operation. Nobody, in all their convoluted replies, has come close to explaining how it's done.
This whole thread is a lot of mostly meaningless babble. Even if the initial question were well enough phrased to be comprehensible, the whole thing still belongs in newbie.
