I need a diagram of a Toyota 4x4 rear axle drum to drum. Any one have a factory manual that they could scan the picture of the rear axle? Or if you know of one online? Thanks

Factory service manual doesn't show the rear axle drum to drum. It breaks up the axle into components.

And like Pappy said, there is no one image of the enitre axle so if you need more than that let me know.

Found some more in the EPC (http://4-low.com/temp/rear-axle-epc.gif)

Yes those will work. THANK YOU Shane Krause. Are those out of the factory manual?
I needed these because my brother that lives in SC blew the rear end in his '87 4Runner. He called the dealer and they wanted over $1800 to put a new 3rd member in. Then he went to a local shop and they said $800 for a used one instaled. His trucks not worth putting that kind of money into. I have a few 3rd members that I got out of part trucks so I'm going to send one down to him UPS. The diagrams will help so I can show him just what to take off. Shouldn't cost any more then $100 this way. Hes never done anything like changing a rear end befor.:smokin:

First one is out of the FSM, the second is out of the Electronic Parts Catalog. Here's what you need to do to swap a diff:

1. Put rear axle on jack stands and remove wheels.

2. Drain oil.

3. Disconnect parking brake cable and hydraulic brake lines from the drums.

4. Remove 4 nuts on each end of the axle which are holding the shafts in.

5. Pull shafts complete with attached drum brakes (no need to disassemble the drums) all the way out being careful not to damage the seals. Wouldn't be a bad idea to pick up a couple extra inner seals just in case.

6. Unbolt driveshaft from diff.

7. Remove 10 nuts holding diff in housing and remove diff.

The rest is simple, just do all that again except backwards. :D Plain old RTV is fine for sealing the diff back up, and you can use a little around the o-rings at the ends of the housing to help keep those sealed up.

Torque values:
Diff nuts = 18 ft/lbs
Driveshaft bolts = 54 ft/lbs
Axle retainer to housing nuts = 51 ft/lbs

Shane where can I get one of those epc? That would be nice to have on the PC.
I could do this swap with my eyes closed , but my brother on the other hand???????? I don't know, he just not that mechanically inclined?? If I didn't live 20 hrs from him I would drive to SC and do it my self. Thanks again.

I got my copy from the Yankee Toys website, bottom of this page (http://www.yankeetoys.org/docs.htm).

Oops, almost forgot the first step above, gotta get the weight off the rear and remove the wheels first  :clown:

 Hell, if he was in Seattle I'd do it for him for $100, only takes me a half-hour at most.

Thanks for the link, I'm down loading it now.
