Ok gunna build my own trailer and was wondering what you guys think of going with a single axle 14 bolt and if that is ok what kind of springs should I get to support it? Also thinking of tandem axle possibility but thought I would see about doing single axle. Only thing I'm hauling is my toy which is in the 3500 pound area. Probably make the deck 12 feet long with a standard hitch attatchment. Thanks.

Check out www.scorpionvehicles.com for the double axle version but why use a corp 14 when trailer axles are cheap and you"ll want brakes and unless you get real creative and use surge brakes it might just be cheaper to use a trailer axle at 5000# rating, other wise if you set using that axle try 1 ton chevy's as the weight rating should be close.....might have to remove one spring.....

You must build tandem axle!
A blow out at 50 mph and the trailer will go over and you will lose the Toy.
Brake are a good thing too!
Dont be cheap when your and everyone on the roads life is at stake!
I had a blow out on a tandem axle , with NEW tires and it was all over 2 1/2 lanes before it was under control:eek:

Use four wheels under your trailer please. Notice I said four wheels instead of two axles? I saw a trick set-up using a single dually axle. Looked pretty cool. Also, brakes are a must. I prefer electric brakes with an inertia type brake controller, but it's all a matter of preference. Besides, trailer brakes are cheaper than truck brakes! ;)
If you have any tech questions or wanna look at a dealer's parts house, go to Redneck Trailers (www.redneck-trailer.com) . There is a location map in there somewhere. I usually talk too Kevin in Caldwell, Idaho. These guys know their stuff. They have been able to set me up with the most obscure grease seals and replacement parts if the hub is obsolete. Fair prices too.
