a friend of mine needs help pulling an automatic transmission in a 70's 3/4t 4x4 chev. I've never messed with a slushbox before. So I assume it is the same as removing a manual? Basically need to reomove the drivelines, shifters, transfer case, unbolt the belhousing-engine, and slide it back and out, correct?
I guess the tranny was slipping....but I dont know details except the truck wont move.....could it be as simple as low fluid or something? what causes an auto to slip?
thanks

Uh.. yeah. check the fluid level before you pull the trans. out and chunk it ;)

If you do end up pulling it... make sure to unbolt the torque convertor from the flexplate and pull the torque conv. with the transmission or else youll have an assload of ATF to clean up off of your garage floor.

And when you get around to putting this trans. or a replacement back in... remember when you install the torque convertor , to make sure it seats all the way down into the front of the trans.

torque converter will "clunk" 3 times when putting it into the front of the trans

make sure u hear all 3 clunks as it engages BEFORE trying to reinstall it...or you will a) break the bell housing on the trans

B) burn up the thrust bearing on the crank and the engine goes:nuke:
