at 210,000 miles its dead.... i think the motor eat the oil pump intern sending lots of metal every where to chew up the motor from the inside out!.......
so i am wondering what would u guys suggest as for bang to buck ratio for a replacement motor?......
this is an 91' k2500 long bed standard cab truck. has an 350 and its an automatic....... i figure ill rebuild the tranny at the same time, along w/ install a locker/rebuild the rear end........ and freshen up the suspension...... but first i have to decide what motor will deliver a slight bit more power and run for as long as the motor its replacing.
thanks

Just rebuild the 350 in it. Our 91 C2500 has 260,000 and still runs strong, no smoke at all...

Do yourself a favor and find a stock 454 somewhere or get one rebuilt. If you're rebuilding the 700R4 (?) have a little beefiness thrown in and it will handle the 454 just fine. You'll be really happy.
Or just do another 350.

I would rebuild your bottom end, and slap some aftermarket heads on it and call it done.
Brand new from dealer is like $13000. Thats where I'ld go. I had one of these run 275,000 and never pull valve cover off.

Andy My guess is that it's a TH400. I'd put a 454 in it.

91 with a small block will be a 700.

I agree with the 4l80 E 1990 was the last year of the 400. My dad owns one. after that the 3/4 tons got the electric overdrive. 700's weren't really seen in the 3/4 tons

My buddy's got a '91 HD 8-lug 3/4ton with the 700R4. Same truck in a '97 (mine) has the 4L80E so YMMV.

That is not true. MANY 3/4 tons saw 700R4s in the '80s. Some had 305s, too.
