: Disco dead
Rover Redneck 04-10-2004, 06:00 PM My son took the Disco out wheeling today and now it won't start. Had to tow it home. Could be water related, but didn't die in the water crossing. Parked for ten minutes and wouldn't start. Clicking noise from fuel system electrical components (relays and such), and no fire to the plugs. What could that be?
64rovr 04-10-2004, 09:40 PM check fuses
Rover Redneck 04-11-2004, 01:53 AM
Well, FAWK! There's something I hadn't thought of! I was in the woods for three fawkin' hours trying to get this SOB started, and I checked the air in the tires, changed radio stations, and cleaned the leather seats, and it still wouldn't work! Wish I'd thought to check a fawking fuse.
:flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
I was actually wanting to know if there was something specific to these quiche eatin' SOB's that was notorious for fawking up after a water crossing. My Range Rover has a distributor, I know why it quits if I hit water too hard, and I can get it running again.
GET IT???:shaking: :uk:
pendy 04-11-2004, 03:29 AM Maybe you should try changing the air in your tires, Red. Seriously.
JP
I suspect the crank sensor.

Discosaurus 04-11-2004, 08:26 AM The emergency flashers didn't happen to come on when it stalled, did they ?
If you whang it on something hard enough, it'll trip the ^%@%$#$ inertial switch and that'll be it as far as running is concerned until you jump through it's hoops for a while...
Trying to think what else I've broke that's made it no va...

So HE says :D
Who knows how deep it went, if you didn't see it.
You look at the exhaust system ? Maybe, during that tame 'ol water crossing that wouldn't hurt a fly, he wailed the exhaust on a big rock and crimped it shut.
Hey - I got kids too ;)
You didn't say of it had spark or not, did you ?
EDIT: Oh - I guess you did. Sorry, disregard...go check a fuse :flipoff2:

64rovr 04-11-2004, 08:36 AM Damn guy
I only said check fuses because the same thing happened on my Toyota, and it turns out the main EFI fuse blew. Fuses are cheap and easy, and you didnt say if you checked them or not.
Rover Redneck 04-11-2004, 09:44 AM Hey, the damn flashers DID come on! What the hell causes that?
BTW Now we're getting somewhere!
It just started, but with a tick in the engine.
No water in the oil, but the filler plug is wet. Must have gotten in somewhere. I'll change the oil real quick and add some Lucas to it and see how long before the pistons swap holes.
Guess I'll have to build him a beater rig like I did the older boy when he constantly FAWKED UP his TJ.:jeep: :shaking:
Bluewater 04-11-2004, 07:38 PM Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago, but I knew something was going to f-up the way I was wheeling the disco that day. But it didn't die until i took it through a cheap car wash just to get the mud off. then i tried to start it and got that same clicking noise. so i try everything eventually i try to jump start it (battery was fully charged the disco just wouldn't start) and it's worked fine ever since. damn lucas
64rovr 04-11-2004, 07:41 PM The flashers coming on and the truck going dead is a pretty good indication of the crash sensor being tripped somehow... as in your boy was beating the snot out of it and hit something hard enough to cause the vehicle to "think" that it was in an accident. I dont know offhand how to reset it, but you should be able to find that info somewhere on DiscoWeb or something.
UPOVR 04-11-2004, 08:04 PM The inertia switch is under the hood on the firewall, if I remember right. black module with a button on top. push to reset.
Rover Redneck 04-11-2004, 08:25 PM The damn thing sat all day and fixed itself. I'm sure he was wheeling the hell out of it. He's watched me for years, but doesn't have sense enough to know when to back off. The inertia switch deal is kinda fawked up for an off road vehicle, isn't it??? But, hell, at least it didn't cost anything to fix. Thanks for the advice, guys, and 64Rover, I'm sorry I blew my top about the fuse question. I was kinda pissed at the time. If you don't mind though, it really made me feel better at the time.:D
