: Found a FJ-55 in a NC junkyard

I know how hard cruiser parts are to come by, my dad has a FJ-40. So I thought that someone might be interested to know that there is a FJ-55 in a junk yard around my house. The body was somewhat rough (roof and fenders were pretty rusty)

Things that were missing:
Front and Rear axle shafts
Most of the steering
Radiator

Things that looked good that someone might want:
Seats were in great shape
Motor looked rebuildable (last inspection sticker was '96
Tranny was still in the truck
Doors seemed to be in good shape
The truck was complete except for the stuff above

If anyone is interested in any of this stuff...email me and i will give you directions. If you think you may need something on the truck and are not local...I could pull the it and ship it to you depending on the part (I am feeling nice tonight).

I am not trying to make money off of this, this is not my truck for sale! I know how hard it is to come by parts for cruisers and hate to see good things to go to waste.

heya,

Im looking for some odd parts that i cant seem to find off anyone.

One is a plastic door piece that has three bolts and holds down the actual interior handle to the frame. It resides behind the little cup that is behind the handle which allows the handle to recess into the door panel.

The other is a windshield washer reservoir and pump if its got one. And rear bumper corners.

These pieces are really miniscule things but i cant seem to find anyone who is willing to part out anything but a whole vehicle.

Anyway if its pic n pull that would be great- if not it sounds like too much hassle or parts are pricey dont bother. Thanks

rogueturtle,

I will go to the yard in a few days and look for thous parts. It is a pick and pull situation....so if they are there....i will get them for you.

About the door piece...does it matter which door??? front/back/left/right and how many did you want

What year is the FJ55? I am looking for a few things from a '55:

1.Center louvre assembly if it has air conditioning.(it will have two chrome louvres and a roller knob(0-10)-its right under the radio)
2.Left visor if its in good shape
3.Taillight lenses and chrome trim rings(early to 77?)The ones without amber turn signals
4.If it has shoulder harness style front seat belts and they are in good shape and not too much $$$

Thanks, if you can look and see what is't got that would be great. Let me know what you want for a fee( money or whatever)

I am not sure what year FJ-55 it is. However it did have disc brakes in the front. So i am assuming that it is later than a '77 but i am not sure.

Can you give me some more information on the location of the 55? I e-mailed you directly also. Thanks.

I would love those rear springs too!! If Jason M doesn't move on them please let me know. I am in Atlanta and would even come get 'em myself if you could not pull 'em for me.

:) :) Super cool move by posting this:) :) I wish we had more of this type of thing going on here in the southeast.

Is there still a little padded center dash piece that runs below the stereo and the other knobs and switches? It is about a foot to foot and a half long.

Thanks

I cant seem to get ahold of the rear cargo bay window weather stripping that holds in the windows. Specter had them but they wanted around 198 apiece!! Anyway if they are still good and you are willing to pull them for me I will pay you for your time and effort as well as the actual costs obviously. thanks.

Ok, i have been thinking about this.....and i think i found a solution.

This juckyard is a little hole in the wall. The owner really doesnt know what anything is worth on that truck and through connections i think i can get whole truck very cheap. I will then pull all the parts that anyone wants and ship them or let someone pick them up.

Reasons for this:
1. I think i can buy the whole truck cheap then sell the parts really cheap......alot cheaper than you will find them at Mana-fre or any other landcruiser parts place.
2. If 20 people show up asking for parts off it he will know something is up and want to sell the parts for a lot more.

I think everyone will benifit from this.
I am going to go down there later this week and see what kind of deal he will give me on everything. Until then i am not going to give out directions so that the plan is not ruinned.

i really think this will be the best deal for everyone...and i am a college student so i have nothing better to do than part out a cruiser.

Im located about 10 min from Ashville and have another idea. If it is cheap enough i'd like to buy the whole thing and then i'd be happy to just give away the parts for free cause I only need base parts to start a project. The rear springs I might have to sell to get money to replace them but other than that i'd give away the other stuff. Tell me what u think. Some pics would also be helpful.

I would be interested in the hood if it's in good shape, and the front axle. Thanks.

heya,

sounds like a good idea. The little plastic door thingys i described be4 im looking for the passenger front one.............but if you have any others i might as well pick em all up since they seem to be horribly designed. This piece was never one of Toyotas better engineered parts.......they musta put some bonehead from engineering 101 on that design.

Sounds like a smoking idea! Keep cruisers in general out of the hands of the price gouging a$$es at some of the yard around here. There are a few FJ55 in yards in this portion of Socal and they are all guarded very carefully by dudes with $$ signs in their eyes. $400 for a drum brake front end is laughable. He told me he gets that ALL the time... Right.

how bout 1200 for a front axle and disks? i almost fell over and told the guy he probably paid less than that for the three parts 55's he had in the lot.

OK......I am going to the junkyard on Friday to gather parts off the 55. I am making a list of everything that anyone has asked about!

Is there anything else that anyone wants me to look at??

I will take a camera with me and get pictures of parts if people want to look at them first. Let me know!!

If i remember correctly...the hood has one small rust spot on it. Over all it seemed to be in good shape. Is that something that you would still be interested in??

Also.. the birfs and shafts have been pulled from the axle. And the passanger side hub was busted. Are you wanting just the axle housing/third member??

Front Fenders, doors and hood. I want the fenders and hood if its not sprung. I'm sure someone will want the doors.

So, what's the status of the pig parts? Were you able to get it. If not I found one here in the San diego area but he will only sell parts and he knows what they are worth. Damn...

Which truck are you talking about? The one at A&B truck? I snagged the entire A/C unit out fo that one for$100! Score. Other than that, Andy at A&B just charges too much for everything, not only LC stuff.

There are rumors of others (three) in junkyards here and one turned up a Ecology about three months ago with 20K on the ticker. The floormats and interior parts looked like they came fromthe factory yesterday. Spent a few hundred $$$ there.

Any others you know of???

Yes, I was talking about the one at A&B. How long have you known about it? They just adv a red/white one in the most recent trader. They used to have a brown/tan one about a year or so ago but it got stripped out fast. I found one at brown field at the all toyota place but the top had been chopped for some sort of hummer conversion and never finished. The one at Ecology that you are talking about... is that the Ecology in the Otay area? If so I live a 5 min away. All I need is the rear side window mouldings/weather stripping so I can put my windows back in.
