If I use 2nd, and 3rd for high torque wheeling (lets say klune and atlas  ) is that harder on my tranny than using 1st?
Are the higher gears weaker? or is it the opposite?
I have an AX-15 (jeep TJ)
Thanks :)

Why? If you are rock crawling then lower is better, and 2nd 3rd etc is not lower.

You won't hurt the trans at all doing that. A Klune or Atlas greatly reduces any strain on the trans (instead putting more on the axles & driveshafts).

Correct me if i am wrong, but I actually think it is the strongest on the tranny to use 4th gear.

My thought is, lower the gear, the bigger the gear, so the stronger the gear..
I'm also not quite convinced that with extreme underdrive, its less strain on the tranny.. it seems like there will be more of a bind on the whole drivetrain, because everything will be very tight.

Correct, 4th gear on the ax-15 is 1:1
Why does that make it stronger than the lower gears?

BTT..
Is it actually less strain on your tranny to use the higher ratio (2,3,4) gears in your transmission?

Here is the way I see it as for torque. If your motor has 200 lbs of tq then in 4th at 1-1 there is only 200lbs of tq being put to the output of the tranny. If you have a 5-1 1st gear then there is 1000 lbs of tq to the output. One other way to look at it is since you are in 3rd you will be running less RPM's than if you were trying to go the same speed in 1st or 2nd so that will keep the torque lower also. Any time you lower the gearing after the tranny you will be pulling the load off the motor and tranny and placing it further down the line to give the the short answer after the long one/ones:D
