I have a 94 Ford F-150 that I was thinking about swapping out my E4OD for a 5 speed. I know the computer gives shift points and other signals to the Trannie but wat would happen if I put in the 5 speed? Would the computer go nuts or would it be fine? I would much rather have the 5 speed but don't have the time to mess with computer and wiring nightmares. If you have any info, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

It will set a code for the MLPS but that shouldnt effect driveability. You will also have to do some rewiring to get reverse lights.

I would have to look at the wiring diagram to be 100% sure, but I think you can swap the ECM and clear up most of the elec problems. The ECM also cranks the timing on the motor just prior to shifting the E4OD for "smoother" shifts. POS
I think the biggest PITA would be tracking down little details like the neutral safety switch vs clutch safety switch, etc... especially where things like cruise control are concerned.
Whatever you do, don't go to all that trouble to put an M5OD in there. If you can find a ZF S5-42 with the 5.71 1st gear, that might be worth the effort.

I live in Ca so I don't know about smog in Fl but in Ca you yould not pass due to the comp putting out siglals for the auto. Your idle co2's would be high because the auto has a load on it at all times (converter) and a 5spd is free wheeling in nuetral. Just my $0.02
