: DIY Fuel Pump Rebuild

My fuel pump died this morning on my 98 Disco. After calling around I learned that in 97ish they changed to a different style pump (evaporative something or other) and it cost around $280!!

After looking around I saw that some people chose to rebuild theirs for around $50 or so using Caddy/Mazda/Camaro/etc pumps.

Anyone know what the differences are between the old and new style Disco pumps and if I can use one of these other pumps to rebuild mine?

Thanks,
Dave

Just as a follow up... I went ahead and got the fuel pump & screen for the '89 Cadillac Seville from AutoZone ($56 for the pump and $6 for the screen). Had it pulled and reinstalled in just over an hour and the disco ran perfectly! The only problem I found was the fuel line that connected to the old pump was quite stubborn so I cut it off and replaced it with a piece of 3/8" fuel line and a couple hose clamps.

Thanks to everyone that blazed this trail before me... you saved me over $200!

You may wanna do a search, but standard fuel line is not gasoline resistant on the outside. You need to find hose that is gasoline-resistant/coated for the feed inside the tank. PM Serious One; he may be able to tell you where he sourced the fuel line when he swapped his pump.

BTW, good job on the pump. Every time you thwart Lucas, he comes around and curses my truck instead  :D :flipoff2:
