what seats have you swapped in, how was the installation, and would yurecommend the same swap again? I have heard of someone swapping in honda seats.......I am sick of sitting on a steel bar, starting to hurt my back:mad: BTW, this swap is for a '85 4runner.

I am sick of the very same bar in the very same vehicle as well. SR5 seats are hard to come by.

I used Celica GTS ones from a 88~. The front mounts fit with a little "tweeking" and I had to redrill the rear mounts. I still need to wire in the power lumber and side supports though :D Best of all, they were only $50! I also had a set of 85 celica seats in there, and they fit the same way.

how much do you want to spend?

junkyard seats from a mitshi eclipse are recaro type and are bad ass. (mine were $100)

beard seats are sweet and affordable. check with all-pro they may have their bolt in beards available by now,

Corbeau Baja SS is a nice seat....3 guys in my club run them now, and more are looking. They are only ~$150 apiece. My wife naps in hers all the time.

I went to my wonderful U-PULL it yard here in town, and for 20$ left with some still nicely covered Porsche 924S Turbo seats, they are fully reclineable, with the pull of a lever they fold forward, slide for and aft about 7" and have completely flat mounting bars on the bottom...Comfortable as hell might I add......Was gonna grab some from the newer mercede's next to it...but why would I want black leather and 7 way power seats in my 4x? hehehe

i went the corbeau direction too...but got a set of Red Carreras. they're GREAT. the mounts that corbeau sells are actually for the pickup, and the passenger side is longer, but if you rip up the carpet, the holes are there...just need to drill out and tap the hole on the console side. also...1 of the drivers seat bolts doesn't quite line up, so just use a BFH to bend the mount, or a dremel to enlarge the hole. great seats, since they were free to me (graduation present), but they'll run you about $390 each plus about $65 each for the mounts. available lumber support is also a helpful add on.

chevy seats have the same problem except worse

as for recommendations for seats that i would consider swapping in:

for comfort the front seats from any caddy would do nicely, if you want to ride on a sofa :D

if your racing go with any mr2 seats

and for in between i'd say the 60/40 splits out of an older extended cab rangers, not sure if the other rangers had these seats
but these are ultra nice cause they hold you in and are also ultra plush and would be the first ones i would ever swap in ;)

sorry but i and my friends are way to cheap to buy performance seats

:)

I have heard of a few people puting Hyundai seats in rather easily.. and the cool thing about those seats are that the cars are crap and die fast, so the seats are rather new in the junked cars.

I would measure your existing mounting locations and head to the local junk yard and compare those to any 2door sport coupes seats that strikes your fancy. My 85 runner has MX-6 buckets in it...they sit a little high but are very comfortable once I fold my 6'3" frame into them. Had to make a small bracket out of some 1" tube for the outside back mount to get them to fit.

i have sr5 seats, they are tan and still in really good shape. i kind of want to get a bench seat so i can fit my soon to be born child and wife in there. man, that would be a tight fit! mostly the car seat! i like the sr5 seats but i'd like more room for my but and my wife to sit next to me like all the other hicks in town!:D

if you want to trade, i could be interested!

I stole some seats out of a 3000GT. Got them for $50 at the local pic and pull. They didnt bolt right up.....had to put a spacer here and there.....but they were worth it!! (The driver seat has lumbar adjustment....big upgrade from the crappy bench)

First set was from a X1/9, current ones from a 90 something Mitsubishi sports car are extremely comfortable and supportive. $50 a pair at the local junk yard. Drill 4 holes each and they're in.

My website has a section on custom interiors with different seat options I've done over the years (Corrolla, Celica GTS, Hyundai, 626, etc...). I've got some pics and basic install instruction there. Just follow my link below and go to the tech section for Custom Interiors. SR5 factory seats are impossible to find but very very comfortable.

If you are still looking for seats, try e-mailing matt_80219@yahoo.com. I got a pair of SR5 seats in excellent condition from him for a very resonable price a few months back. He is in Denver, CO and puts alot of used toyota parts (truck and 4-runner) on ebay as a business. He might be able to help you out.

I used Honda civic seats in my pickup the early 91-95 style seats in my 85 reg cab, I am still on the prowl for a second set for my 88 4runner. you have to redrill the holes, but the good thing is the seats sit about an inch lower, there is no bar in the back support and they are both reclinable just dont forget to remove the belt reciever from the seats because drunk people have a hard time trying to figure out which on to buckle into.... e-mail me if you want any specifics ...... :D

89 Honda Civic si $75 off ebay for the pair. Had to redrill the rear mounts and used nylon spacers to make them sit level. Front mounts bolted right in. Sits about an inch lower. Made by recaro for honda. Super supportive, super comfy. Lots of side bolstering. 200% improvement over stock.

My brother has a pair of seats he took out of his Porsche 944 (either same or very similar to above) when he put Corbeau racing seats into it. The drivers seat has a small (~1" long?) hole at one of the seams, but both are in pretty good shape. PM me if interested at all.
