Is it possible to swap a Chevy TH400 output shaft onto a Jeep TH400 that originally came with a Quadratrac.

I am looking for the cheapest way to throw an automatic tranny behind the AMC 401 I have and use some of the transfer cases I have to make up a doubler box with a driver's side drop.

Tansfer cases already laying around:
Chevy: NP203 from a SM465
NP205 from a SM465
NP205 from TH400
Ford: NP203 and a NP205 from a NP435

Trannys:
Got a Jeep TH400 but it only bolts up to a quadratrac-- and the output shaft on it is insanely long..
Got a couple of manuals laying around as well. Ford T-18 with the AA kit for a D300, a NP435 and a SM465.

I know the Ford NP205 is what I will have to have as the end unit.

So, from what I have figured out I need to find a Chevy TH400 with a NP203 attached to it and purchase an bell housing adapter ring for the Chevy TH400 to the AMC 401, and an apapter plate and stub gear adapter for the Chevy NP203 to the Ford NP205.

If you can come up with something else let me know. I am able to change plans fairly easy, but I am currently stuck on the engine--was too good a deal.

Thanks again.

Yes, you can do that, the internals are the same.

Swap the Chevy output shaft into the Jeep TH400 and you won't need the adapter ring. The rest of your plan sounds good. Are you making your own adapter or using Offroad's doubler? Their doubler may not work between a chevy 203 and a Ford 205, but call them to be sure. If you are making your own, then I'm sure you would be able to do it.

The only other way I can think of to do what you want to do would be to use the Chevy 205 married to the TH400, and then get a divorced Ford 205 behind that. You don't say what this is going into so I don't know if you have the wheel base for it, but all you would need would the the TH400/205 adapter and shaft and a Divorced Ford 205.

Thanks.

I was pretty sure the internals were the same just needed clarification.

It's going in a Unimog frame that I chopped down to 105" wheel base. I was going to use either OffRoad Design's adapter, Wagoner Machine makes one that will do the job between the Chevy and the Ford or I make fab it myself(Time permitting).

I am trying to keep the overall length of the set up within reason. I think I'll try and the Chevy TH400 output shaft and find a Chevy 203 that bolted up to a TH400--It's 32 spline, right?

That sounds right. I think All GM TH400 output shafts are the same except for length. If you get one attached to a 203 case, you know it will be right.
