i have installed a MSD 6A box series on my 22r engine truck. the engine diesels after i turn the key off. i have tried lots of things to fix this. wire in a 30 amp relay, a 30 amp relay and 10 amp fuse<which is what i have on it now>. re adjusted the fuel mixture on the carb. i have noticed at times, not all the time, the dieseling isn't as bad. my timing is set at 5 degrees. im gonna try a colder plug to see what happens. the engine was rebuilt 18 months ago only 12,000 mile s ago so i don't think there is alot of carbon build up either. any suggestions? this is just a pain in the

thanks john

Go ahead and richen up the idle mixture a bit.

Stock or Weber carb? Having the idle speed set too high on a Weber will cause the engine to diesel.

check out your idle fuel cut off silinoid.

make sure it isn't stuck open and that it is working properley.

if it is a weber they usually don't come with them but you can order one plug it in and it will stop.

there is a screw that holds in an idle jet,
remove that screw,
pull the jet out of it,
put the jet in the tip of the siliniod
and screw it in the carb.

then hook up acc power to it,
(i just jumped a wire from the choke power.)

i could try and take a picture of my carb at home and e-mail it to you but it won't happen for a few days.

when the carb is mounted on the motor and you are looking at it over the pass. side fender,
same side as the choke,
there should be a sloted brass screw just to the right and slightley lower than the choke.
that is it.

there is a pretty good picture at the bottom of this page
http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Aplication_guide/making_the_right_choice_32.htm

the carb on the left is the one that i run and you can see the spade connector just to the right of the choke.

i don't know where on the 38.

I had the same problem with my chevy 383 in my jeep. I also had a MSD 6AL. The engine worked fine before I installed the ignition. It turned out that my body wasn't grounded good enough (I was grounding my MSD through the body). I was putting some beefy grounds from my battery to frame and to the body for my winch and that cured my "dieseling". It turns out that it wasn't a fuel delivery problem, it was electrical. I guess you can determine if it is a fuel problem or spark problem by putting a timing light on the HV wire of the coil. If the timing light flashes when you turn the key off, its an electrical issue. I guess you can also just pull the coil wire off and see if kills the engine.
