Can I replace a front t-case flange (square flange) from a '71 t-case with a flange from a '74 - '77 t-case?
Also are the '74 - '77 t-case flanges square or round?
THanks!

The splines are the same for all transfercases up unitl '78. Should be a ten spline(IIRC) on the front output. The flange pattern from sometime in '74 changed to a larger rectangular pattern. If the '74 has ujoints with the c-clips outside the bearing cups the flanges should work. If it has the style with the c-clips inside, by the seal on the caps it will be the larger, later style flange and wont be comaptible. HTH

The front transfer case flanges and the pinion flanges are the same.
The larger flange/driveshaft bolt pattern started with the 4-speed Land Cruisers.
The pinion flange splines went from coarse to fine in 1/78, so the early '78 models still had coarse splines.

Interestingly enough my 12/78 has fine splined pinions and coarse splined tcase.... Another wierd LC habit. Alteration years are not always exact......
