: 350 Or Stroker

It's getting time for a new engine in my 80 blazer and I don't know if it would hurt to have more engine when I normally do the mud. The stroker was great in my Camaro as a kid, but now that I've grown up is it still a good idea?

Ask muddin how much she likes her stoker in her Blazer... she loves it! And it is pretty sweet.... she made a video of her peeling out and I think most of the guys who saw it wanted one after that.... :)

The stroker is the way to go you get so much more torque than a 350 and they can be built to make much more horsepower they blow away any 350 I've ever driven.

What ever you decide make sure and get a GM crate motor. The 350 one is the cheapest. Thats the one I have in the Jimmy (250 hp) With 4.56 gear and a mini spool I can do a burn out with both rear 35" MTRs :D

383 stroker (http://www.bluefox.tv/~iroc/smokage.mpg)

It doesn't even bat an eye at smoking some 33's. I've still got grooves in my tires from that burnout.

It produces enough torque down low for crawling, then produces enough HP for mudding. I wouldn't go back to a 350 now that I've been spoiled. :D

It's a real easy swap too. The only things that won't bolt up that are from your 350 is the balancer and flex plate/fly wheel-you would need to get ones for a 400 crank.

Stroker, definitely. Especially for torque and power, they’re great for 4X4's.:nuke:

I still wonder on gas milage... How much of a total change are you 383 people experiencing? I've never built one with milage even a consideration LOL :p

I actually get better gas milage than I did with the stock 350. And the 350 I replaced only had 45K on it.

On the highway I get 13-15....depends on which way the wind is blowing :)

Cool deal Mudd'n. I have been tossing the idea back and forth along with what to do about the FI. Go a custum port setup with a Haltech ecm or who knows. I guess we will see, I just know this spring when the 4.56 14B FF heads in and I upgrade to 37's or 38's I'm gonna need more power and milage just to equal the bad power and milage I have now LOL. :rasta: :D

there is no replacement for displacement! 383 all the way, make sure you have it balanced.

definately go stroker. For us here in snow wheelin' country it's handy to build the 383 instead of a big block to save weight. Sure you can get more torque out of a big block, but one of my friends has built his 383 just shy of 500 ft-lbs of torque and 450 hp for his blazer. Not bad I'd say!!! If I built one I probably wouldn't go that hot since I'd like it to last a little longer.
