i was wondering what the largest tire people would recomend running on the 97 passport. i was wondering if 35's were to big for the front axle or if i should run 33's to avoid snapping shafts.

35's are definitely at the high-end of what is reasonable for the stock front drivetrain...... it becomes more of a "when" will you break something" issue instead of an "if" you will break something. I can think of a handful of people running 35's on the IFS, but if you are going to wheel, I wouldn't recommend it unless you are prepared to replace CV axles from time to time. Its impossible to say how often..... but you are pushing your luck with those tires. And if you do get 35's, definitely drop the diff down to reduce CV angles.

I would recommend (and am myself) sticking with 33's. Dropping the diff down to reduce post-lift CV angles is still a very good idea, but not as necessary. 35's are cool and all, but they don't fit into the equation when you are talking about preserving front axles. JHMO
