: Grrr... Warrior's steel corner guards didn't fit worth a crap!

I should have listened to Mark at Off-Road Fabricators a few weeks ago. I asked him about how his tire and can carrier would fit over Warrior's steel corner guards and he mentioned he had a TJ in his shop with them installed and the fit was very bad. Their poor fit turned installing his tire and gas can carrier into a major job.

I took a chance and ordered them anyway thinking maybe that was an early production model and that maybe they were ok now. Nope. The radius around the corner is way off and they just look like crap. There's almost a 1/2" gap at the corner between the tub and Warrior guards. Grrrr....

What amazes me is everything else looks great. Nice cutting, finish, strength, etc., the stupid things just don't fit! They did 90% of the job right but they sure blew the all-important final shaping. Could I bend them to fit? Damn I tried but they're just about impossible to bend. I'm afraid if I try any harder, I'll wreck them so I can't get my money back from Quadratec.

I wrote Warrior's Operations Manager/CFO to tell him about the problem but I seriously doubt they can or will do anything about it.

I'm sending them back and will probably go for the more expensive OYR guards. At least they will probably fit.

Jerry, you will be very happy with the OYR panels. It might take a while to get them as Dan Duffy is only running the shop part time now (last I talked to him) but IMHO they are worth it! I got both the corners and rockers from him 1-1/2 years agao and they fit perfectly.

I had the same problems only worse. I ended up having to use a saw to make the diamond plate match the radius of the wheel well and to make it flat along the top edge of the tub, I dont think I will ever buy them again.

I had the same problems on my 81 CJ. Glad I went with the Off Your Rockers on my 82 and 99. They fit like a glove.

These were the first things I bout for my YJ and I love them, I go the rocker guards at the same time. They fit like a glove. You can get them with the light cut outs or without, if yu want to change your taillights.
I would send the others back and buy the OYR panels.

To Warrior's credit, they replied to my email saying they discovered their early corner guards did indeed have a fit problem. They have reworked their dies to get the gap down from almost 1/2" to between 1/16" and 1/8" which is very acceptable to me. They also offered to pick up the old set and replace them with the newer version without having to go through the dealer. I'm taking them up on that offer so they're getting another chance with me. If the new ones don't fit as well as they say they will, I'll send them back and go with the OYR.

This changes my initial opinion of Warrior and just goes to show that when given the chance, most companies will do what's right for the customer.

What I have seen done is clamp down the corner first to make the bend fit. Then work out each way from there.

make your own..here's mine ($30 worth to do all the sides and back) I bent it by clamping it to my bench and bending up, move down an inch or so, and doing it over and over till it kinda matched. bolting it to the tub pulled to tight. I cut it out with a cut-off wheel mounted in my 4" cheap-ass angle grinder. Low tech, but it worked!

I went with the guards from Carr. Had the same problem with the left side. Wound up using a furnature clamp and some colorful expletives to get the dumb thing on right. ;)
