Finally fixed the broken shaft... thank you cable puller! But in any case now the Detroit is very not happy, at all. I'm guessing the two internal toothed gears are fawked. I remember somebody posting here about buying replacement gears and fixing their locker? I searched but couldn't find the exact post.
Any help would be great... still hoping to go wheeling this Sunday!!
I recall getting a quote for the replacement bits to service a detroit from Ashcrofts and was frightened enough not to bother. Not cheap.
I'm afraid I dont recall the price though.

Almost a certainty that you will strip the teeth on the inside of a Rover Detroit when you break a halfshaft. Happens about 75% of the time ( twice to me). Mine were totally hammered and stripped all the teeth off both sides of the diff.
Just get an ARB and be done with it. Or don't break shafts.

ps. doesn't seem to happen as often to non-rover diffs. maybe they are a weak version of the detroit.

If I recall correctly, detroits are set up a little different for rover diffs. I can't recall the difference, but I remember seeing it in a write up.

In any case... who knows what internal parts I need?
I don't plan to break any more halfshafts, as soon as I get the correct drive flanges the thuper-duper NSO rears are going in.

Better check on availability. There have been a few guys lately said they were no longer supplying parts, compete units only!

I was the one that said you can fix the detroits. I have one that is in pieces and awaiting new gears. GBR is supposedly getting them for me (going on 2 months) He said that all Tractech parts are manufactured in Ireland and he is waiting for them to be shipped in. I can't remember what he said the gears cost but i am thinking around $100ea, which is still cheaper than an ARB.

At one time Randy's Ring and Pinion would rebuilt the rover unit for 150.00 plus shipping. Worth a check I guess.

Fuck, $100 for each gear is gay. I can buy a complete new unit for a little over $350 and not have to fuck with it!!
Running MaBell on Sunday, you want to come down?
