I have a little problem at my hardtop 97 Defender as follows:
Every time that one of the lights works (heads, turn & even stop-light) it affects on the gauges. The fuel gouge goes down almost to zero. When I shutoff the lights it goes back to normal.
Could it be a minus problem? I thought so I hooked a minus from the battery straight to the chasy beams but the problem did not disappear.
I thought to hook between the chasy & the body, since I thought the body made from aluminum it doesn’t conduct well the electricity – I will hook it in few spots.
Did anyone of you guys faced those kinda problems?
Do you have other solutions?
Thanks, Gali.

sounds like the earth from the back of the dials. when you turn the headlights on, the panel lights illuminate and draw the current away from the dials themselves.
I'd check the black wiring, as thats the earth (or "minus" as you called it)
hope that helps
:uk:
Hi Jim,
So you suggest I should check the Earth from illuminations at the back of the panel?
Should I draw another new line of Earth from the battery to those illuminations? Or just to check & tight the existing black lines?
Is the brake signal switch also connected over here? couse I indicated that when I press the brakes the gauges go also down. I tried to look at the electric diagrams & it shows a general Earth connection.
Anyway I'll check all tomorrow, I'll update soon.

What he meant was that you should burn it to the ground.
Lucas, why don’t you go play with the traffic for a while & let the big boys talk a little bit, ha? :clown:

Ah Haaaa Haaaaa
Way to go noob with a tood.
Do the chicken dance Ed.
You probably need to check the ground to the firewall or body from the battery.
Oh and get use to abuse with your fix it tickets.
