I'm hoping you get some answers. I am kicking around the idea of running those tires with my stock axles, beefier birfields and an anti-wrap bar in the back.

Yeah, I know I know. "You must use full-size axles to run tires that big, and while you're at it, lose the boat anchor 2F and run a chest-beating 350 SBC."

I've heard it.

I ran the HELL out of my 38's on Cruiser axles, hell, i would still have a Cruiser rear axle in my Cruiser if I did not HAVE to have a High Pinion rear axle.

Make a good traction bar and load the 3rd up with a fine spline pinion and run the HELL out of a Cruiser axle.

I have never heard of a front Cruiser Pinion going south, however I am certain it happens.

The only problem with Cruiser axles and big tire are the Birfields, however, I broke just as many Birfs with my 35's as I did with my 38's.

Buy the tires and Get it!

i had a fj40 that I ran 15x39.5x15 tsl on.limited slip front and a welded rear.v8 auto. my other 40 (I still have) has lockrites front and rear and a stock 2f& 4spd.It had 36x15.5x15 tsl radials on it. the birfield brake ratio was at least 3 to 1. the '3' being the 36 radials and lockrites. So the moral of this tale is:birfields brake,no matter what size tires you run,the important question is how well you get them to hook up!!! :mad3:

I got the tires today and man they are big I gained a bunch of pumpkin clearance. I was just wondering because I was thinking of going to bigger axles but I dont want to spend the money for a while.

Just run them and find out. Mine seem to work out fairly well :-)

i have 38x12.5s sxs on right now and so far so good. i have a set of 38.5x14.5sxs fixing to go own this weekend. i am welded up in the rear and a lockrite in the front. i have not snapped one yet. but i have a doggy 3f with a auto and 5.29 gears and run 98% of the time in 2wd just so its easy to steer. and this is on a fj62 that weighs way more than a 40.
