Well, I FINNALY got my motor in and running. It is rough right now but I didnt have time to mess with the timing much...

Anyway, seeing as how I have hassled with my mechanical stock fuel pump to the maximum, I decided to scrap the mechanical stock pump and add a low pressure electronic unit instead...

Anyway, I havent even driven the truck while using it, just cranked it a little in the garage...

I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried this and if they had liked it or not? If it matters mine is an AC Delco:)

Anyway, i was just looking for some advice on what to expect...

Thanks!

I had to put an electric fuel pump in because I installed an adjustable cam sprocket. I haven't tweeked the timing yet, doing it this weekend. It's a cheap pump from the corner store that cost about $40. The others I saw for a direct replacement were too much. There are three lines to the fuel pump, I guess it's the normal in and out, then the third out goes back to the tank. I have it hooked up with just the in and out, it works fine. I hooked the electric to the box behind the battery where the fusible links are. Inside this box there's the relay for the electric fuel pump, it's in the wiring diagrams, upper left if you're in front of the truck looking at the battery. I have an 86 truck, probably isn't exactly the same. The fuel pump is working perfectly normal.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing on my 80.
Scott ellinger told me that some of the 1st gen carburated trucks came with BOTH a mech pump AND an electric pump in the tank, just like you would expect to see on the EFI trucks.....

I havent had the time to crawl under mine and see if I have both or not.......Either way, i want to run an electric OUTside the tank. :)

I ran one on the stock motor and liked it. Iran a adjustable regulator on it and on the trail turned down the preasure and it never flooded out. I would recomend to anyone

I've run electric pumps on mine, and I like it, keeps the fuel up to the carb alot better. I every so often run allittle too low on gas, and the pump will suck every drop out of the tank!
