Does anyone now how to tell if you have Marlin gears of what might the gear ratio have been for the FJ40
I have a transfer case thats turns 4 to 1 in low range. Not sure if i'm doing it right
The T/C is hooked up to a 420, in 4th, i turn the input shaft 4 times for the output to turn once, Is that correct?
Could it be something else?
Any input would be welcome
Thanks

Thanks 60 series guy
I'll have to check and see if it's realy 4 to 1 or something lower
Could you confirm my testing method
Cruiserdude
Your method is correct. When I installed my sm420 I was playing with it, and in first gear, for every 7 times you spin the input shaft, the output spins once. Roughly... So if you have it in fourth, 1:1, then you're essentially just ignoring the tranny and counting the reduction of the tcase.
Put a mark on there and count. Input to output.

Marlin Cruiser Gears were 3.64 to 1 and the others are like 4.7 for the mini truck...if it looks like a stock case and is split its probablt a mini otherwise its more then likely a cruiser and if that the idle gear should be welded....

If I had to do it again I wouldn't...not that its bad but rather expensive and I didn't need OD but wanted the gears...now I'm told that I could've had the 3.06 in the 350 for about a grand and that's a built tranny....with all the goodies and will be in my next ride...thinking 4.3 V6 with turbo350 and Atlas II with the offset cruiser style axles, once they get that done.....or I will retube the 60.....

Is the t/c aluminum or cast iron? If it's iron it could be a spicer 18 with aftermarket gears. Do the driveshafts both come out the passenger side? Is your rear pumkin centered or offset? does your t/c scream going down the road? If no, they're not marlins
