We've just received our first batch of these new studs. They are direct replacements for the stock 6 studs holding locking hubs, or drive flanges on your toy axle. They will work on all toy front, FF cruiser rears, and our FF kit as well.

They are made from 8740 chromo, and we supply new grade 10 metal locknuts with them. Normal price will be $79 for a set of 12 studs and nuts.

Intro pricing, $69 a set.

How is 8740 (http://www.macsteel.com/mdb/general_information/estimated_mechanical_properties_and_machinability_ ratings_of_selected_cold_drawn_alloy_steels.htm) stronger than a grade 8/class 10.9 stud (http://www.textronfasteningsystems.com/eng_tools_f/grades.html)?

8740
Tensile Strength: 134,800
Yield Strength: 88,000

Grade 8
Tensile Strength: 150,000
Yield Strength: 130,000

Class 10.9
Tensile Strength: 150,000
Yield Strength: ~136,335 (940 Mpa)

Maybe I'm missing something, but how are these any stronger than stock? Wouldn't a Class 10.9 be better? Or even better Class 12.9?? Maybe 12.9 are hard to come by, but 10.9 isn't. Saw them at Home Depot the other day. Although they were bolts, not studs.

Well, I did some more googling and found this page:

http://www.centuryperformance.com/fastenermaterials.asp

8740 Chrome Moly:
Yield Strength: 160,000
Tensile Strength: 190,000

Looks like your studs could be the snizzle.

Just for grins, how about some AERMET 100 fasteners?

Yield Strength: 258,500
Tensile Strength: 300,000

Holy fricken cow! :smokin:

can you use this kit w/ warn hubs.

Sure, but swapping those hubs out for Aisin hubs would be a good thing to do at the same time.

As for testing, we havent broken them in the rig here.

And for the super bling fasteners, I dont think we even want to find out how much those whould run!!

Never heard of Grade 10. Sure it isn't Class 10.9?

Yes, Class 10. For all practical purposes, most folks consider it the same as standard grade 8.

Yes, Class 10. For all practical purposes, most folks consider it the same as standard grade 8.

There is Class 12.9 (http://www.textronfasteningsystems.com/eng_tools_f/grades.html):

Tensile strength: 177,000 psi
Yield strength: 160,000 psi

Seems it would be more suitable for your studs. Although it could be hard to come by. Maybe Maryland Metric (http://mdmetric.com/) could get them. They said they can get 12.9 studs, I'm sure they can get 12.9 nuts as well. Just a thought.

May have to check with them on the nuts...

for the 8740, we'll stick with that as with the heat treat, its a better/stronger setups. Thanks for the lead on the nuts though.

Does anyone make these type studs for the steering arms? I know that you can drill out and use larger studs but I am looking for a kit like the one for the hubs. Scott
