: Sill repair & sliders all in one?

So my already pretty rotten sills (88 RRC) took a beating this weekend off road... No biggie, I bought it to 'wheel.

I am wondering if anyone has tried to do a sill repair/ strengthening combined with a rock slider... All in one piece. I'm thinking of a 1/4" piece of L-shaped steel, trimmed and notched where necessary to cup the sill. It would weld up ... somewhere... ??? ... maybe a few pieces off to the frame, tacked to the top of the sill... I'm not sure. Then, you could weld a piece of square tube or something to the bottom of that to get a bit more steel between the rocks and the edge of the door.

Not sure I'm being clear, hope you get the idea. Anyway, anyone done this? Seems like there has go to be a way to repair the sills AND fab up a slider of some sort, all in one piece (and cheaply). Bear in mind that this need'nt be pretty, just strong, and well done enough so the doors all close well still.

Any ideas?

I took a square "tube" 100x50x4mm (4" by 2" by 5/32") and welded it broad side to sill.
This sticks down under the door, when the plastic trim was removed.
To this I welded round pipe with bends to create nerf bars to further protect door bottoms.
I have pictures, but not yet on the web and at home so can publish tonight.

My siils had so bad rot that I had to put in some new sheet at the rear where wheel arch meets floor and sill.

I installed something very similar on mine. I took a 4"x1" by 1/4" thick channel steel, welded the bent pipe (curves up and along the rocker panels about a 1/4" shy of the doors). I then welded a "L" metal to the frame, and bolted the slider to the "L" on the frame and then anchored the slider to the bottom of the body in addition so the slider does not rattle against the sill. I think that I still have pictures some where. I will try and find them.

To help protect the slider I dropped them off at Line X and had them spray them with truck bed liner, I waited untill they were spraying another truck bed so you don't have to pay for the set up time. I think that it was around $50.

I had done some searching and hadn't found what I was looking for. Having specific usernames helped. Thank you.

tobbjo,
Thanks for the picks, much appreciated.
