What is a good stick welder? I was using one at school before a 2 months ago and got pretty good with the thing. They had like a 200 amp one. but i never went over like 125 amps...

What is a good buy on one? I am looking for something that can weld thicker metal than my lincoln 100 wire...

get a lincoln AC 225-- ive used some that are over 10 years old and get worked but are still going strong at my job.

or, if you got the buck, get the lincoln ac/dc stick welder... its a little more though

I'll second that. And I'd also go for the ac/dc model.

I found an old airco (1960's) stick welder at a garage sale, its 220, works great... just find a 220, it burns real hot

yeah used kicks butt. I paid far less than I should have for both my welders by buying them used :D

Ditto on the old Lincoln 220 AC Stick welders. My old man's got one that's at least old as I am (pushing 30) and it's still going strong. You can pick 'em up cheap at auctions and in the classifieds.

the d/c machines are going to lay a lot nicer bead than the a/c with a lot less welding boggers. but it has a lot to do with how much you are planing to do. if its just for a bracket every now and then just get a cheap a/c machine and don't mess with 7018 stay with 6011 rod or 6013 and it will be fine. mike
