Ok this is from someone who took them apart.

Anyone know the stock diameter of a toy birfield or rover cv off the top of their head?

Quote:

"The ring gear dia 8 inch, axle shaft 1 3/16 inch with 27 spline,It has 2 pinions and birfield size is 3 5/8 inch. The joint is before the hub reduction which is 2.06,so the load for diff, axle and joint are only half of the standard axle. The hub gears are 2 spur gear(straight cut)with dia 4 inch(16 teeth) and 6 1/4 inc (33teeth).The output shaft to the flange 2 inch."

Two pinions? does he mean two pinion bearings?

Is 27 spline 1 3/16s a stock size for something?

what is the consensus, will these go :nuke: or will they hold up?

I dunno' Ron...I've got a Rover CV sitting on my desk (as a paper-weight), and it looks to be bigger than 3-5/8th". But with the gear reduction at the hub (*/2) you should be fine with that stuff...I betcha' you could get custom iners from Dutchman and addapt a Rover HD CV to the hub with a little machining...Then if you ever did grenade it you've got a source for spares. Go for it man!

Maybe I should buy a set and let Cooper play with it first.

Anyone else have any opinions on whether they will hold?

Ohh the stock diameter of a toyota birfield is roughly 3.5" and 3.375 measuring from the flat to flat.

Will they hold up?

Looks like a two pinion carrier to me! That would be the pinion gears in the carrier (the ones that mesh with the spider gears).

You mean mesh with side gears. I hate when people call them pinion gears, really gets everyone confused. Say it with me, spider gears, side gears, spider gears, side gears, awesome, now i think that will settle the confusion ;)
