I got a great deal on a 2.9 and C3 auto tranny and I was wondering if anyone has done this swap before. What all do I need and what mods. do I need to make to the sammi? I want to run my stock T-case, so will this be possible with the C4? I have heard that all you need to do is put a 2" body lift and your ready to go. Is this really all there is to it? Also, what recomendations are there for fuel pumps? Any info will be great!

i did a 2.3 and a c3 set up in a sj and it is some work. had to cut the crap out of the tunnel. also moved the grill forward a bit and angled the radiator in and used a electric fan in back (engine side). i also used the late model mustang lights and the sj grill. it looks like a cherokee. but alot of cutting is required. also alot longer and transfer case is tricky. i'm using a devorce toy with a 4.5" intermendiate shaft. i say 4.5 because that is the shortest u can make it with 2 u joints. so the drive shaft is really short and a cv is a must. no possible way with out cutting the front end off can u put the tcase in the same place. it will be moved back 5-7" if i remember? or u can cut a the sheet metal and put the radiator in the back but anyways major mods. also yours is longer than 2.3 by at least 4" and u need a bigger radiator than a toyota. that motor is hunk of crap anyways. go with a 4.3 chevy or a 4.0l ford if u want a v6. i would pick the 4.0l. lots of torque. wern't you bedford boys talking about how i should read more books and that my suspension was all wrong? i saw your rigs on your screen saver and i got to tell you i'm not to impressed. you all have stock sammy's. spring over with 33's at the most and maybe a locker. i didn't even see a shackle reversal. i'm not trying to sound like a dick but if u talk the talk walk the walk. where's the cool shit??????????????????????????? if you guys have cooler shit please let me know so i can change the way i think about bedford.

not judging anyone just askink if that was you? every group has one guy that spouts off 4 everone and i was just wondering if u were part of that? sorry 4 any confusion and good luck with the swap. r u stiil going to use it? i can send some pics of mods so u can compare if u want. by the way i also did a toy ifs steering and toy axels with high steer at the same time.

Use a c4 if you can, i know someone on the other bored said that won't work, but I would look into it if I were you.
I was under the impression that any trany that could be used on a 2.8 could also be used on a 2.9, and maybe 4.0.
The c4 can be shortend 5" which makes using the stock tcase easier. finding the parts to shorten it is the hard part.
I have a 2.8/c4 and it works good for me. it was an easy swap.
the two main things that i had to do were to widen the base of the trany tunnell, and move the tcase back 2".

I am not sure what he has planned to do yet.The only reason he asked about this swap is he can get the motor and tranny for 250$.As for the work it would probably be myself doing it for him.I'm getting ready to do goofie leaf's for him in a few weeks.
