: Body lift questions

I recently had a flatbed installed on my 69 and I need to lift the body a bit to make it look right in relation to the headache rack and to give a little more fender clearance for my tires. Before the flatbed went on I was going to just do Offroad Design's 1" body lift but I think a 3" is really waht I need to line the cab up.

I'm guessing I will need to extend my steerign shaft a bit. My truck is a manual so will I likely need to lengthen some clutch pedal linkage? Finally, is it likely that I will need to lengthen brake lines?

What are normal mods that are necessary?

You have listed most of the things you will have to do, but you will have to work on the radiator also. My advise to you is not to do it. You will really have trouble with your body bolts if there is any kind of rust on the underside of your truck. You will have to adjust your steering and all of your other linkages. Body lifts are cheap, but overall a real pia. Good luck with what you decide.

Yea, I'm torn about going with the body lift but right now the truck just doesn't look right. Unfortunately, the body lift is the only option to get the cab up a little. Maybe I should just go with the 1" which will need minimal mods and be happy. Anybody else with thoughts - I prefer to hear the good and bad before I go and screw up a good thing!

TJ - I checked out your site - your 82 Jeep is great - I will have to keep my eyes out for you - we live real close. Have you ever made it up to the Cathouse recreation area near Dighton and Shields, Kansas. Looks like a fun even they hold out there about once a year.

Yep, I went to the Kansas Krunch (http://www.heartlandoffroad.org/kansas_krunch.htm) there last year. I won the Detroit locker at the drawing. I plan on going out again.

If you do decide to do the body lift, you should invest in some new polyurethane cab mount bushings while everything is off.
These new bushings will line your cab up to sit level and not sag, which probably has happened to your old bushings.
Get some of these bushings, install them with the body lift and call it finished. ;)

I encountered the same problem on my 86 K30. It has a heavy duty forestry box that, in my opinion was sitting too high. I ended up going with a 2" body lift to get the cab to sit right in relationship to the box. I originally did not want any body lift whatsoever, but it just looked goofy with out.
I had to extend the steering shaft (easy), and cut out some of the radiator shroud at the bottom. Has a hydraulic clutch so linkage was not a problem in this instance. That's it.
It's been fine so far, but i haven't thrashed the truck hard yet either. We'll see i guess.
