Yeah.. Classic, in as much as that is what makes for a strong cage.

Y'know, the guy's a bit new... May or may not know a lot about cage design... Also may just want a showboat or a mall crawler, but if he's looking for a functional cage, and DOESN'T know a lot about design, a little information might just help more than hurt.... Although maybe you're helping him more w/ your smug offhand comments... I don't know....

What makes him a bit new? 25 posts on Pirate? He may be new here but not new to Jeeps, He has built his CJ-7 in many different configurations including SOA and its current 4" SUA. He has mounted up a YJ tub and most importantly wheeled the hell outa it. But he only has 25 post here so he don't know jack :flipoff2:

And your point is....???

So what... He's done some stuff to his Jeep.... That makes him unique?
I don't know the fawker, and have no idea what he's about or what he's looking to do with the damn rig.

Hey... It's a decent cage.. Like I said, looks like nice work... Some triangualtion would make it stronger. Fact. Truth.

If that's something he doesn't know, maybe I've helped him. If he knows it already, and doesn't care to put the info into practice, that's his deal.

No matter what, I've done something good for somebody... I've given all you jackasses who want to moan about having heard this old story, the chance to take a stab at a little flame, and feel like somebody special for a brief short minute. I'm glad to help, and I certainly won't take away from all of your little moments of shining glory. You are all special. ...So very special.....

Just wanted to let you know that your cage will fail you. The way the front bars are kicked under the dash is where they WILL bend. I did the same thing years ago for leg room and when I rolled the cage folded those front bars right at the bends. looks good but dangerous. Comfort doesn't always follow form. Redo it before it redose you. :(

I was "thinking" the exact same thing. Thanks for confirming this. I've seen other cages done in a similar manner and I always wondered if that was a bad idea. I understand it makes it easier to get in and out, but that has no bearing on why you have a cage in the first place.

Wow it used to be a problem with people saying you need too much triangulation but now we have a bunch of know it alls saying you don't need any. Even better.

You might be right in this case since he might not need it, but for many on here you do need a good amount especially if you don't want to be re doing cages after a few rolls. And what so wrong with being on the safe side? I am not talking about just tossing tube at it. I mean the key is designing it right so its triangulated and yet it still uses the same or close the the same amount of tube anyway. So I wouldn't go spouting this you don't need any triagulation bullshit all over the board, for many here "just having anything extra is better than stock" is not going to be good enough.

I am sure that will be adequately strong for decently hard rolls/flops. It has some triangulation and enough to keep it from collapsing, no big deal to get all riled up about...

ALEX Bronco
04-30-2004, 08:35 AM
what thickness exhaust pipe did you use for that cage. I got a exhaust bender and I think I will build me a cage. That exhaust pipe's pretty cheap, so I can build a cage with 500 feet of exhaust pipe for next to nothin. Can somebody explain what a triangle is and how to make one. I am confused. Brett

HEEPJEEP
04-30-2004, 08:57 AM
I think they used the 3" diameter for better flow (using the cage as a air tank I believe). Not sure on what thickness pipe, but if it can handle the exhaust pressure of a 258, I am sure it can handle 150 PSI and a roll over.

Oh, make sure you tie in electrical conduit in there too, can't trust exhaust tubing everywhere, sometimes you have to add some of the expensive stuff too...

Triangles are those 5 sided things, like that building the goverment has, I think it was called something like "the pentagon" or some shit like that. Hold on, I will try to find a picture so I can explain it better.

wsdads
04-30-2004, 09:02 AM
Actually, if you fill the exhaust tubing cage with Helium, it will keep you upright to help prevent a roll. The excessive triangulation allows for more usuable helium. And in case it does roll, the pressure of the helium being exerted on the exhaust pipe will keep it from crushing/bending. AND it will make it easier to put back on all fours IF it does roll.
