They are just like your 85 PU only with a removable top and a back seat! Or get an 85-89 and do an SAS. What is it you really want us to tell you? The drivetrain is the same as well?

draw back of 4-runners

1) the tailgate drops down lower when open and you can't raise up the rear bumper as much as a truck

2)you can't scoop out the rear fenderwells as easily as you can on the pickups

don't get me wrong i just bought a 85 runner and the plusses out way the few negatives /just some obsservations i have made so far

you can do anything you want if you take the time to work the problem.

I just got mine 2 or 3 months ago, here it is in it's current state, should be lifted in a few months (already have half the parts sitting in my garage). Right now it's stock except for the 32's. I say just buy it, you'll most likely be glad you did later. Just be patient and wait for a really good deal to come along.

Toyota 4Runners and Pickups used the same frame design and the wheel
bases are the same.

There is a extra plate of metal in the 4Runner frame from where the rear
spring hanger to the crossmember I believe. On a pick-up if you pop out
the black plug you can see directly in the frame, on a Runner you see
the plate in that hole.

The gas tank on a 4Runner sits lower but, if you put in a body lift you
can raise the tank for more clearance.

The removable top is a feature that is hard to beat, that is what sold me
to have the 84-89 style Runner. Also you can fit 4-5 people in your rig.

The drivetrain is identical to the Pick ups, extra cab pickups have a longer
wheel base so the rear shaft will not work out of those models. 4Runners
have the same wheel base as the Standard cab/short bed Toyota pick ups.

Good luck finding a rig. If you choose get a newer 4Runner with IFS and
convert it. Some came with the 3.0 V6 and the better SR5 interiors with the
nicer seats, and the IFS sterring box. Live axle conversions are cheap to do and you could probably
find a IFS Runner easier than a 84 or 85.

If I had to do it all again, that is what I would have done.:usa:

I would go for V6 runner, and do a swap. I've had both and would much rather have power of V6. plus you get the stonger third, and tranny. Also the frame has a higher rise in the rear. I'v got 6inch in the rear and can fit 9012's on stock mounts.

(Just for a FYI, the rear frame is the same as the 84-85 4Runners and pick ups.
the frames are the indentical bends all the way through 95.)

Good looking Runner!:usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa: :usa:
