Let's say I had a IH T18 close ratio, and a Ford T18 granny 2wd trans, and I needed to bolt it between a SBC and a Jeep Dana 20 (texas).
Can I use the guts from the Ford T18 together with the IH main shaft and housing to yield a granny gear/texas tranny?

YES in general but it depends your versions old or new style.. If they are the same version NP.
But the 2wd shaft will need to be repaced with the 4wd shaft from the IH... You may have some issues but it should work... Another option is to buy the AA kit
Now for a small bit of education use the SEARCH feature or read the old posts is search doesnt work....tons and tons and tons, (did I say tons?) of info here on T-18.

Yes, except it's more complicated than that unless you use something like a lakewood bellhousing. The T18 I used to run was built from a Ford T18 and the output shaft and adaptor plate from a scout T18. I had to use the ford case because the bellhousing bolts are in the face of the T18, there are no ears like on the Ford/Jeep versions. So anyway, I drilled and tapped the rear of the ford case to accept the Scout adaptor and it worked fine. If you were to use a lakewood type (sheetmetal) bellhousing, you may be able to drill holes to make it work with the Scout housing.

You would have to select a Lakewood that has transmission holes that wouldn't interfere with the new bolt pattern 'cause Lakewood won't sell undrilled housings. The other option is to get a housing that will bolt to your motor, weld up the existing holes, then redrill.

Crusty, I was in a similar but different scenerio about 6 months ago. I had a Jeep T-18 with the the 4:1 and I had to mate it up to a SBC and D20. I went and got a Ford T-18 with the 6:1 and an AA adapter bellhousing and mixed and matched the guts to get everything correct. If you could find a Jeep T-18 to Jeep D20 adapter that might help things out too. Don't know if this helped.

I was thinking about this again I forgot you wanted to use this on a SBC. Novac recomends the drilling of the chevy bell for a Ford patteren SO if you built the Ford 2wd with the AA kit you could then use the stock chevy Bell.
