My power steering on my YJ is close to shot, probably due to my 36 bias swampers on beadlocks, and wheelen 5-6 times a month hard. What are some sugestions for an upgrade/ replacement??
I am working on buying a house so $ is a bit of a factor for me. I have heard of XJ pumps. Looking for all advise from stock to ram's
thanks
I did post through about 20 pages but could not find anything comprehensive.

well # 1 add a cooler! like a transmission sized one.
then, what is actually going bad? box? I think a j20 box is supposed to be a much stronger upgrade.
get a Cooler!
is it the pump? I'd just replace it and modify it (http://westtexasoffroad.homestead.com/powersteering.html)
oh and get a COOLER!

full hydro
2x8 ram
chevy PS pump
orbital valve from a Clark forklift (cheap if you buy them rebuilt)
go to a commercial hose builder (someone who builds for construction equipment and/or does on site building) they'll get you what you need.
I've seen great working systems for less than $300

My main problem is my box is starting to scream under articulation and trying to turn. The fluid is also boiling out which would be helped by a cooler. I have just heard of a few options for pumps, boxes, coolers. And figure I will do a swap all at once. I dont want to go hydro yet, due to the fact that I plan on fitting my front 9'' with 60 knuckles in the future and would do that at that point. I just got out of school, and am looking to buy a house, so $ is a factor and the major swaps will wait a few years.
Basiclly asking for set ups others are running as far as an upgrade for the stock 11 year old YJ system
Thanks so far though

99 Durago/Dakota 4x4 steering box. It is identical to the YJ box, except it has a 3.5" bore, instead of 3".
