I think the gear is a 4.10

Jack up one rear wheel. Spin the diveshaft 10 times. Count how many times the tire turned.

there's a plate with the specs under the hood, the axle code should start with G and have 3 numbers behind it

Well it doesn't have to start with G but that's most common, look in toyota FAQ there's a whole axle code section there tell you what axle, what ratio the code say's you have.

I have my doubts however, mine I think is G292 which i believe is 8" 4.10 (thats what the code said when I looked it up), but that truck is a V6 Automatic which should have a lower gear, but I digress.

i'm due for a spin too.

thats not possible cause there should be a 4 as the last number, if it were a V6

G stands for an 8 inch diff.
Next 2 numbers are the gear ratio
last number is the number of pion gears. 2 is 4cyl w/o LSD, 3 is 4cyl w LSD, 4 is V6 w/o LSD,m 5 is V6 w LSD

Of course there aresome JAP built vehicles that do not apply to the published axle codes, but I have them :smokin:

But how many 85 Toys don't have 4.10's?

Just the ones that are automatics.
I think they had 4.37 or something like that. hope that helps.

'85 had only 2 ratios(at least in the US), 4.10 with a manual tranny and 4.30 with an auto

only us people with '79 and '80 trucks got the 4.375s :)
