: how to tell if gears are RR30 or SR30???

i am trying to buy some 4.10's from a guy who doesnt know if they are RR or not. i haven't seen RR30 gears next to SR30 gears before so i dont know what to tell em to look for.

Measure the length of the pinon and call Randy's. They will tell you what it is out of. CJ, YJ, and TJ are all different lenghts.

BTW, this lame ass post belongs in the General 4X4 forem.

If the pinion meshs with the ring gear above the center line of the ring gear they are RR gears , if below they are SR gears...

To add to that, look at the direction the teeth on the ring gear are cut, this is where the term "reverse cut" came from. The teeth at 12 o'clock sould go up and to the right for a standard rotation gear and up and to the left for a reverse rotation gear.
