I thought I was just about there but ran into a snag. I removed all lines to this, the four nuts from inside and the pin securing the brake pedal.

Manual says to now remove booster but no go.

In the engine bay tehre is a large mounting plate (black). Don't tell me I have to deal with that also?

It appears there was some sort of sealing compound that made for a tight fit. FYI, use a long screwdriver to pry ABS unit from mounting plate at the bottom right corner - looking at it from the front of the vehicle.
