Hey guys, my dad has a stock sami and every now and then it loses its RPM's and won't idle, and sputters when the rpm cuts down.......any ideas? it happens when you cut corners and when we went up a snow bank in a parking lot the other day, but once it starts it won't come back for a while...........and its a 88.5......
thanks :roxy:
Check all of the wires around the carb. I had a loose ground at the carb and my Zuk would cut out like you mentioned.
Probably not the problem, but something to check. Good luck!
I'm havin' this same prob w/ my sammy, but it got to the point where it won't idle at all. The ghetto way to fix it is to take the two nuts that hold the accelerater cable carb and move the cable back. This raises the idle and opens the choke, but now I get poor gas milage....but at least my little bitch runs.
BTW. This doesn't solve the problem, it just buys you some time.
Good Luck

why not turn up the idle screw instead? the acc cable is supposed to be lose so it can return to idle. switch carbs with a good one and check if it goes away.
The idle screw will only turn so far before it runs out of thread, Changing the carb doesnt sound like a bad idea, but i don't have an extra one to try it with.

thats what we were going to do, we have anouther carb on the donor zuki(my last off-roader) and when ever we get around to it we'll try that, but i don't want to take it off that one in this cold and findout its not the problem...... so anyone else have this problem.......think its time for a 16valve..........:D

It could be a vacuum problem.
Adjust the timming and valves to factory specs (if you don't know, buy a service manual). Hook up a vacuum guage to the manifold and check for about 15 inches after you adjust both.
The vacuum guage will drop on acceleration and then come back up. If the guage bounces around at a steady rpm, you have a burned valve. Do a "leak-down" test on each cylinder to find out which one.
