Today Sam's screwed me. I ordered my Dana300 to NP435 adapter from them and a half hour later called them back to add the pilot bushing I forgot. They said no problem they hadn't called AA yet to have it sent. Well, I received the adapter today, nine days later, with no bushing. Called them back and they said they'd call AA and find out what was going on. I called Sam's again (3rd or 4th time today) and they said AA had run out and that it was sent out either this afternoon or it would go out tomorrow. I did not believe this, so I called AA and found out they have 48 in stock and when their inventory gets as low as 30 they make 70 more. So, I proceeded to explain my situation w/ Sam's to AA and he said the order for my bushing was never placed until a few minutes ago and it was sent regular ground. So, I am assuming that Sam's lied to me to cover their ass. I called them back and told them what AA said to me. He says (I think it was Colby, not sure) "guy, I don't know what they are doing over there, but it was sent out this afternoon." Again that is a lie because he could not give me a tracking # proving that it had not been sent yet. Then I told him I understand mistakes are made and asked if he could overnight it and he said "no". I told him that my project should not have to sit around another week and a half because they did not complete my order like it should have been. I don't think a few bucks to overnight a little pilot bushing is asking much, seeing how I just spent over $400 with them. Am I being unreasonable?

Why am I b!tching like a little girl? because I want to share my misfortune with you to explain the customer service I received from Sam's to offer you insight on what to expect from them if you encounter a discrepancy.

I am sure Sam's has had a lot of satisfied customers and I am glad they have received proper service, but I am not satisfied nor have I received proper service.

You may be right they forgot to add the bushing. As far as overnighting it for a few bucks... How much do you think freight would cost them? If they drop shipped it from AA to you I can take an educated guess and say between $40-$50, I can't remember what the AA drop fee is it's $5 or $15 . If they overnighted it from AA to them, and then overnighted it to you now we're talking closer to $70. It sucks they forgot it. If they did, who knows the guy on the phone may not be the guy ordering?? Hard to say what happened, but you may be right. Yet how can you ask them to pay that much in freight? They should have told you how long it would take to get it and maybe try to work something out like split 3 day select or ?? That's a lot of frieght even at ground prices for a $28(I think?) part.

Steve, you're right. But theres also a thing called good will. I've had cheaper parts fedex'd to me because the company I ordered from screwed up. And I didn't even have to ask. FWIW I had a similar situation with a couple vendors. Lied saying the parts were backordered from their supplier.. at least once I ordered it directly from their supplier and had it in 2 days. As far as Im concerned customer service in retail (and mail order) these days has gone to hell.

BTW nice Fugs sig ;)

Sam's has AA send it directly to me. Sam's sees no product, just the money. They call AA give them my address and order, then AA sends it to me.

Either way, Sam's should take responsiblity and correct the mistake post hast instead of lying. Nobody likes an ear full of bullshiat.

i've wheeled with Sam Patton a few times and he's a great guy....but I have been hearing a LOT of bad things about customer service. I can no longer recommened Sam's Off-Road to anyone unless they're going to OK and picking stuff up in person.
Sorry 'bout your trouble with them. And I like it when y'all let us know about the service you get (good or bad) from the companies that want my money! But hey, at least it's not fourwheelpartsandservice:rasta:

I agree. All I'm saying is that there might have been a happy medium. I doubt the tranny was ready to bolt in the next day. Possible but in most cases not likely.

I already put the new mainshaft in this morning. I have been taking my time because I know I am not getting the bushing for another week, but it has only taken me a total of 4 1/2 hours to disassemble the tranny and put the new mainshaft in. All I have left to do is use the 'ol feeler gauge on my shaft and check to make sure my shaft is getting the right about of play on it's end. :smokin:

I have never worked on the internals of a tranny before and it is quite easy or at least so far.

Actually, what is the easiest way to check endplay? Do I have to go out and buy a micrometer? or is there some average tradeshee mechanic trick?

That guy right there is the fawking problem, he is my replacement and IMHO not up to the task. Since I have had to use him my orders have been 6 screwed up : 0 correct. If you can get Rick on the phone, he will do you right but know what you want as he won't spend more then 5 minutes on the phone with you.

Totally true.

I am local and I still don't do much business with them because they botch my orders soo much, Colby needs to go or get adjusted by Rick.

IMO that is an assumption a business owner should never make.
