I have an AMC20 under my Cherrokee Widetrac. Is it worth keeping in there or should I look for something else? What have some of you guys used (12 Bolt, D44, etc.)?

its good and strong, the only thing you could get that would be better would be a Dana60 or a 14 bolt.

if you swap to a dana 44 or a 12 bolt you arent really "upgrading"

its a different beast than the CJ amc20 rear end, the weaknesses are addressed at the factory on teh 1/2 ton trucks

full size jeep AMC20s are stout, like ozarkjeep said. don't worry about replacing it until you get bigger tires (38s or so)

I must agree with the other guys that the AMC20 under your rig is the one to run. The ONLY reason I am not keeping mine is because I am upgrading to 8 lug DANA60 front and 14BOLT rear. I am going to be running 38" tires minimum. Your AMC20 should hold up for you rather well.

Thanks guys, sounds like its just the ticket running 35's. what would be a good inexpensive locker unit to run in here. Any suggestions.

weld the rearend

other options:
OX is coming out with a locker for the M20, it should be available by the summer
Detroit: solid and klunky
ARB: too damn expensive, has hoses, but controllable

you could try a traclok or posi rearend or LSD, but if you want something for tough offroading, use an ARB, detroit, OX, or just weld the carrier.
