1. Wondering about the use of a complete rear end in a samurai for a three-link. Not sure about the ball joint in the center, but the rest looks good - coil mounts, link mounts, all built in. Any down side?
2. Is the tranny from the kick/tracker desirable? The donor I have my eye on is a 94 2WD.
Also seeking info on getting a 16v swap smogged in CA.
Thanks

The Sidetrack 5 speed has the same gear ratio's as the 88.5-and-newer Samurai trannies. It is supposed to have bigger bearings than the Sam so I would think it better. If you go with the 16v swap, it would make things easier.

Got to Off-Road.com and look in the Suzuki tech section. There is a write-up on this exact swap - it's not too bad from what I remember.

I'm pretty sure this tranny is longer, quite a bit actually. I think this is what Bobaki is running and his intermediate shaft is only an inch or so long. Bob had to hack on his tunnel as well because its fatter too.

The ratios are the same, but the gears and bearings are bigger, and the flywheel is a couple inches bigger, and a couple pounds heavier. The extra weight helps the torque feel. The shifter comes out about 6 inches back, and the tunnel needs to be widened about 1". All in all, a very worthwhile mod, I really like it, plus its a bolt up to the 1.6! I can post some pics this evening if there is any interest...
