I have an early Series IIA and am in need of a steering wheel. Does anyone know of an aftermarket steering wheel that will fit or an adapter that I can use. The wire spoke steering wheels are hard to find used (that are still in decent condition) and far too expensive to buy new.
Thanks,

So you have the early type that requires a pinch bolt to clamp it on the shaft of the steering box - with no threaded section at the top of the steering column shaft?
I have never seen an aftermarket wheel to suit this type. I changed a steering box to a later type so I could use a SIII wheel on one of my IIA'S. So you could do this if you can get a late IIA or SIII steering box and wheel cheap. Otherwise you may have to cut/grind all the plastic stuff off your old wheel to get back to the metal splined section, and weld on a boss to bolt an aftermarket wheel to.

If you change your steering column to that from a Series III, you can use a SIII, 90/110, Defender, Range Rover, Discovery, or any aftermarket wheel suited for any of the above.

ok.. i found a company in the UK that sells Astrali brand steering wheels and they have a boss that will fit the early IIa style steering boxes. Cost for the 15" wheel and boss adapter is about $70US not including shipping.
Their website is: http://www.brookwell.co.uk/acatalog/INTERIOR.html (http://)
