OK, here is the deal. My uncle has a race car that isn't driven very often. He is wondering which optima would be the best battery to use. I think that a yellow or blue would be, but aren't sure. Thanks for the help.

$99 red top is 650 cca, $139 redtop is 800 cca, yellow is deep cycle, (drain it flat and it will come back), Good for 2nd battery in dual system, blue is same as big red with different terminals for marine use. Use one of the red tops. If your not using it much you've gotta keep any battery charged, Optima's are a little more forgiving, but you can kill 'em :emb4:

Real race cars mostly use the Red Top Optima. Even the EXIDE BATTERY car uses and Optima. Most of them also mount them up side down.

I vote for Red Top Optima.

Red top. Mine sometimes sits for a while and it always starts up! I have them in all my vehicles.

Ive got optimas in two of my vehicles and they haven't let me down yet and they sit for a long time.

They are of the large red variety

"blue is same as big red with different terminals for marine use"

sorry, it is the same as a yellow but with extra terminals.

I bought my blue Optima from a Battery place.... I mean a place that sells every concievable battery known to man.... from Aircraft Carriers to cheep shit calculators. They worked on them too.

They swore the blue had some internal differences making it a more of a both worlds type battery which shares some character istics between the two other optimas. It was only 10 buks more so what the hell....

Not that this means anything........

I just got done installing a remote car starter for my Dad's GMC. One of the real cool features of this 45 dollars remote car starter is that you can set it for VACATION MODE which turns your car over for 10 minutes while you are on vacation. I didn't read all about it but I imagine you can set the startup to run once a week. That would keep your batteries alive. The installation is very simple and only 45 bucks saves you from replacing batteries after they have deep drained several times.

Ok I take it back. It USED to be that way but I just checked their site and they have two different blue tops. One appears to be a red with extra terminals one appears to be a yellow with extra terminals. Are they any different besides the terminals? I dunno. Never used to be.
